Mamas, don't let your babies go out and buy Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005.  Same goes for you too, Papas.  I haven't been on AIM much lately and that game's the reason why.  It's owned my soul for a week and half now, and if I dared take it online you guys would probably never hear from me again ( Read more... )

Get online.

Do it.

So that I may crush you under the biblical expanse of my greatness at that game.

Seriously.

Biblical.

Ha! Man, oh man. Temptation, temptation.

Tell you what; I'll do it, and I'll let you know when I do, if you wouldn't mind waiting a little while longer for me to get my attributes up a bit. In all (rare) modesty, I don't think I have quite enough power off the tee to run with the big dawgs yet.

Are you on PS2, or are you on XBox Live? I'm a PS2 dude, myself.

PS2.

It's going to be a bit complicated; because of the layout of my current apartment, I have to run an 80' ethernet cable to the 2nd floor in order to get online, and as such, I don't do that too often. That said, I would be more than happy to do it when you think you're ready.

Note: I can't get a full pink ball off the tee, so I wouldn't worry about the distance too much; it's my approach game that should frighten you. The buddy of mine who is the best of all of my friends can quite easily get a full pink ball. He's "really good," and I usually beat him by a double-digit margin.

In the interest of full disclosure, I've played '05 for a total of about 72 holes; all of my boasting is based on my supremacy at the previous four versions.

I'm telling you, I'm so good, it's hard to watch.

Sweet Jesus.

Yeah, it's settled now, we're going to play sometime.

It's too bad we won't be in a position to make real-world side bets on this thing. I'm sure that in addition to my pride, you'd have a grand old time taking my money too. lol

"a novice interested in musical composition"

get some shiet and make sumpn. don't waste your time reading a bunch of boring theories that will just inhibit and taint your ability to create anything. start creating first. then once you've created, then and only then consult the theory. it's a process, it won't happen overnight, but you'll end up understanding music a lot better and forming your own constructive opinions.

that's my advice anywayz..

Yes, yes I am. I wonder why you're only figuring that out now though. My openly admitting to making love to my pet cat should have been evidence enough before!

And, okay, let's say you wanted to get some simple software. Just about two would do it, probably. For the electronic sounding midi sequencing stuff, probably Reason would be good for you, early versions are easy enough to come by. For orchestral sounding stuff, you'd have to decide on whether you're a Finale or a Sibelius person. I'm a Sibelius person myself, and while people say you need to start on finale and work your way into Sibelius because it's less intuitive, I more or less think those people are dumb. Just kidding. But yeah, Sibelius (or Finale) uses the general midi that comes with whatever soundcard you have to write piano stuff, guitar stuff, full orchestra pieces, string quartets, whatever. Laptop soundcards are usually not quite up to it, but any desktop can handle it just fine. Reason comes with drum machines, effects, and lots of funky weird sounds and beats and loops, for when you get the hip hop bug or whatnot. I mostly use Reason for the weird sounds part, and export those to wav files which I edit in Sound Forge ( ... )

And I thank you for being the pompous knowitall commenteer! You most certainly rock your damn self.

Thanks for the information there, and I'll certainly be using it as I look more deeply into this. And when I hit town, don't think I won't be pestering you even more about specifics. Hell, it'll probably get to the point where you'll demand payment for your consultancy services.

[As an aside, I guess that macro you posted means your mail got there, huh? :D ]
