“Hey, Yunho, would you ever get tired of me?”

~*~

What did he do wrong? What did he do that made Yunho despise him? Did he finally-after all these years-get tired of him? Jaejoong laughed bitterly as he remembered that day a week ago. He had come home, carrying a dinner that he had specially ordered for Yunho, and had seen clothes-female clothes-strewn all over the floor of the living room. He had heard moans, grunts, sighs, from the spare bedroom. He hadn’t believed what his heart had screamed at him-that Yunho had betrayed him-and had walked over to the room and opened the door. The sight inside had frozen his heart to ice-Yunho and another woman’s body were entwined on the bed, writhing around in an effort to get closer to each other.

He had staggered into a bar and had tried to drink himself into oblivion, but the memory of Yunho and another woman had remained engraved into his memory. Days had passed as he stumbled around, sleeping outside the bar if the bar closed. After a while, he had decided to crash at one of his best friend’s place and right now, he was on the couch of his best friend’s house, laughing hysterically while tears coursed down his cheeks.

He knew his friend was worried about him. He knew his friend had tried calling Yunho in order to find out what had happened. But Yunho-damn that bastard-had never picked up the phone. His friend had tried coaxing him to not drink, to not dwell on that memory, to move on, but nothing he had done had helped. He knew that the way he was right now, even his best friend would one day get tired of him-just like that bastard-and just kick him out. But he couldn’t find the energy, the will to try to keep living. Oh, he wouldn’t commit suicide. He wasn’t so stupid. But the only thing he could do right now, was to just breathe and try to pass each day, minute by minute.

Another week had passed as he moped around his friend’s house. This morning his friend had told him that he would be bringing a friend home and had asked him to try to clean himself up. So he had, but nothing he could do had been able to put life back into his dull, lifeless eyes with the bruised skin underneath.

His friend came home, bringing a pretty young woman home with him. He forced a smile, knowing the woman would be unsettled. Surprisingly, she had lighted up, exclaiming that he looked familiar. Familiar? Now that he thought of it, it seemed like they had been in the same class some years ago. But he didn’t care, the only thing he wanted to do was leave them alone and be left alone.

She dragged him outside of the house and insisted on spending time with him. He went along with her naïve wishes that they’ll become good friends once more. He knew that his heart was broken, was frozen, and that nothing would be able to touch him emotionally again.

Amazingly, her cheerful personality was able to give him temporary relief from the pain his heart held. She was able to help him give a smile-the first true smile he had given in a long, long, time it seemed. And yet, the ice around his heart still remained.

As she said goodbye, he turned to his friend and asked if he had brought her back with him on purpose. He nodded, saying that he had met her a month ago and had seen an old picture of them in her wallet. His friend asked if it was a good idea and he shrugged, replying that it was a good thing to have seen her again, but she probably wouldn’t be able to help. He turned to walk back to his friend’s house and wished, once again, that the man walking besides him was Yunho. He knew it was a futile wish.
