I'm interested to hear what all of you think about this, especially those of you with children of your own? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090927/ap_on_re_us/us_more_school Do you think we should have longer school days and longer school years? ( My thoughts )

That's so great that your dad has a new girlfriend already. Good for him, she sounds nice too.

I disagree with the longer school hours as well. Work smarter, not harder -- not sure how well some of the districts are doing with the hours they already get. Every once in a while they talk about sending kids to school year round here, but it never comes to fruition.

She's nice. I'm not too thrilled with how quickly their relationship has progressed but that's mostly out of fear that he will get hurt. I was young when my parents divorced and he was already seeing his second wife at that time and we werent really close so how he was feeling at the time never concerned me. This time it was hard to watch him be so depressed. I was bringing him dinner several nights a week because if I didnt he wouldnt eat. He didnt care if he ate or not. I would buy him groceries so he at least had fruits and veggies that didnt require any preparation so he'd have something. Whatever, they are happy together now and I guess that's what matters. She added me as a friend on facebook and I was reading her last month or so worth of posts and they were all about how happy Dad makes her. They are practically living together now. It's still strange for me to watch him go from so depressed to suddenly so happy in such a short amount of time though ( ... )

I love michigan wines :)
Hollywood Markets had Witches Brew on sale awhile ago, my Dad wasn't wild about it so I didn't buy any.

I'd be more for year round school than longer days, otherwise kids would be even more pressured to try to do sports, other extracurriculars and homework. When I was a kid I played sports, had to go to CCD, and did girlscouts till 8th grade. I had year round kindergarten and my Mom loved it because we could go on my break in October on vacation without tons of people being there.

What are some of your favorite Michigan wines? We tried a cherry reisling from Traverse Bay winery that was pretty good. Have you tried the Witches Brew? I liked it. It was a bit on the sweet side and the cinnamon was pretty strong. I love cinnamon though so I didnt think that was a bad thing. lol

I would be all for starting school earlier in the day and still getting out at the same time but not going later. Did you go to kindergarten in MI? There are some states that have year long school and I havent really heard any complaints about it.

My favorites are all Traverse City wines. Chateau Chantal, haven't had a white wine of theirs I didn't like I also like their Naughty Red. Chateau Grand Traverse has some good ones if you like Riesling, I also like their Pinot Grigio and their Port but the port is really expensive so we bought that only for a special occasion. I think Shady Lane Cellars makes a really good Pinot Noir, I haven't had anything else of theirs. Last fall we went to Traverse City and went to 3 of the Mission Point wineries, Chateau Chantal (my favorite), Chateau Grand Traverse (pretty readily available down here at Meijer & Hollywood), and Brys Estate (not my favorite but it was pretty). The Cherry Republic has its own Cherry wines, they are pretty good if you like Cherry wine. This fall we're hoping to take Kathleen up to Great Wolf Lodge to see how she does in a hotel room and to visit the Leelanau wineries this time :) and possibly still slide up to Chateau Chantal because I love their wines ( ... )

I also like Leelanau Cellar's Winter White (its fruity if you like fruity wines), Hollywood had that on sale the same time as witch's brew so I picked up that one and their Leelanau White. I think I've tried their witch's brew before, it was sort of like drinking potpourri at first (was really fragrant if you heat it like it recommends) but I ended up liking it. Dad is pretty much a straight red man and Chris was weirded out by the smell so neither of them were too excited by it. ;)
