What is "business casual" anyway??

Well, after checking out the bank's dress code, I realized that a major shopping trip actually IS a necessity... five years of college and four years of employment at a deli didn't exactly help me build up a wardrobe of "business causual" clothing. I sincerely hope that I don't have to look bland and vaguely preppy for nine hours every day. :P ( Read more... )

I'd Suuggest T.J.Max.. and maybe even K-Mart and WalMart.. I think K still carries the Jaquelin Smith line.. that used to be considered business casual.. of course I haven't shopped for a woman in over 6 years now..

St. Vinnnie's and Goodwill are your friends. You can get reasonably nice business casual for super cheap. A bunch of my business casual came from thrift stores.

Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure more of your wardrobe qualifies than you think. I could point out what would and wouldn't be appropriate if you like.

My favorite is TJ Maxx in the West Gate Mall. My work practices Business Casual... I get away with Casual Business Casual because I'm not dealing with customers face to face. I do know this from my more strict business casual days... no open toed shoes and no skirts with out nylons, socks or tights!

Preppy looks are still generally preferred in the corporate world, but you can still snazz things up if you do it carefully. Also as iron_warrior pointed out clearance racks at JC Penneys is your friend. I have bought sweaters, skirts, and shirts there for under $10 before, you just have to time it right and/or check often.

But... that's pretty much true of all stores.

Give me a call if you ever want to go shopping - preferably after this Sunday. I've been in the corporate world in all of it's incarnations since 1999. I can give you some tips or... well i love to shop... so I can just be good ol' fashioned transportations and company too. :)

Another tip - skirts are your friends. Have you seen me wear my long denim skirt? It's long and full, so I wear it both to the office as well as out to club or to dinner. You can dress it up or down, and it's very versatile either way. It has definately become one of my favorite clothing pieces. I picked it up from JC Penny's for about $30. That's a bit pricey even for me! But it has been well worth the price for all the places I can wear it. Every good piece of versatile clothing you own that you can wear in a multitude of situations is worth the price you pay for them. But that's just my own humble opinion.

Business casual for women can be the same as men's. You don't have to wear a skirt if you don't want to, and dress shirts (men's style) are fine. The only really distinction I could think of would be that women can't wear sleeveless tops... short and long sleeve are fine.

ok, thank you. i've browsed through some "women's business" clothes sections online and i think i have a better idea now... surprisingly, some of it is really cute, i thought it would mostly be BORING. :)

go to blue lotus and ask them to make it invisisble, that way you can still keep the nose piercing.
