Characters: Jade Curtiss and you! Location: Shibusen library. Rating: PG to be safe. Time: November 24th, afternoon Description: While everyone's busy making a commotion, one newcomer's going to study.
[Somehow, Minako had found herself promising to cook two people dinner. One was set for a day or so from now, and another at an undetermined point when Koujurou-san's garden started showing results. He'd mentioned something about leeks, and Minako had slowly realised she... had never really cooked with leeks before.
As it was something she wanted to do herself, she'd not asked her senpai for any help, and had gone to the library in the hopes of finding a cook book with some interesting recipes she could try.
The library was usually pretty quiet, so the unfamiliar man focusing all his attention multiple books stood out. She pauses - this is a library after all, and it would be rude to just appear out of nowhere and ask of a stranger needed any help when he seemed to be all right as he was - before turning her attention to the shelves in search of a decent cookbook.]
[Jade decides to stop reading for a while to adjust his glasses, catching sight of Minako pausing to look at him before turning to look for something else.
Seeing that she wasn't among the people who had arrived recently, she must have been here quite a while- and thus, possibly helpful.]
[Minako blinks in surprise at being addressed - hand hovering halfway between taking a book down from the shelf - before shaking her head. Removing her chosen book fully from the shelf, she turns slightly so she can at least see who she's speaking to.]
Not really. It's more like the person is unfamiliar. [Pause.] You're a new arrival?
Yes, I only arrived yesterday. Of course, the same can be said of many others. [Jade notes the page of the book before closing it; he can come back to it later.]
I see. I guess a "Welcome to Death City" would be appropriate? Although I don't know how much of a welcome it can be when you don't have much choice in being here.
[Minako flicks through a couple of pages of the cookbook, before tucking it under her arm.]
There have definitely been a lot of people arriving this time. Or maybe I've just been noticing them more this time.
[Don't mistake that smile for friendliness Minako; Jade's just smiling because he thinks he may get some information out of her.]
Is that so? While there's little doubt that some of the guests are already making their due complaints on the very devices provided by our captors, I'm certain that some of us welcome the sentiment, forced as it may be. If you don't mind, may I have a look at that cookbook?
[Any information she can tell him is hardly a top class secret. S'all good from her point of view.]
Most people learn to deal fairly quickly. There isn't much choice.
[She raises an eyebrow slightly, before looking down at the book under her arm. It's hardly top grade literature, or a comprehensive guide to Death City so she isn't entirely sure what the sudden interest is... but she shrugs, and holds the book out.]
[But she would know more than him, which is good in itself! Anyway, Jade takes the book and he immediately notes something of interest- or at least, he seems to be interested.]
Oh, how interesting! [As if to prove this point, Jade gets the notebook close by and he writes something down.]
[Minako tilts her head thoughtfully. She's not going to question the sudden interest in the cookbook, even if it does seem a little odd. She's done strange things before, so it wouldn't be fair to judge.]
In a manner, yes. After all, one can hardly expect to survive out in the wild without having some knowledge in the culinary arts. [But if Minako looks carefully, she'll see that he appears to be more interested in the ingredients than the steps.]
[... Well, some people do enjoy studying what goes in the meal rather than the process. Process is adaptable, the ingredients usually aren't. Give or take a few substitutions.]
Don't worry about it too much over here. There's a cafeteria here for if you can't, won't or just don't want to cook. Although it's never a good idea to let skills go rusty.

Is the sight of someone studying so unfamiliar?

[She pauses, before adding.]
Wilderness survival, huh? That a hobby?

I do know someone whose legend began in the 12th century though.

I believe the rules of the game dictate that you can only claim legends directly related to yourself. Or is that your way of admitting defeat, hmm?
