Wallace Steven and “The Idea of Order at Key West” is perhaps one of the most visually stimulating poems that I have ever read. He uses many descriptive ideas of nature and the surrounding settings that pulls the reader in to the poem but also confuses them. Once again I have forced myself to read yet another poem from Eliot’s “The Wasteland”. Although I loved the imagery in these poems I still found it hard to actually enjoy them. I would have to say that I have always found both of the world wars to be very interesting. Although, they were each depressing and devastating in their own right I have always found it intriguing to learn about the lives of the soldiers that risked their lives to fight for their country as well as the bystanders affected by the war. I was away with the stomach flu last week so I was not able to come to lecture or tutorial but I was still able to keep up with the readings. Out of all three of the poems assigned to be read this week I found “Tommy” to be the most interesting, entertaining and straight forward poem. This weekend I was exposed to exactly 153 songs ranging from 1939-1990 and I had to write my personal feelings on each one. I would have to say that before this lecture I was unclear as to what the true definition of satire is. I am very thankful to the professor for giving me a clear idea of what it is.
