I wonder what peoples' IM etiquette is. for instance, when you are talking to someone that isn't your best friend or whatever, do you wait for them to IM you? or do you have an every-other-conversation rule? and do you always say hello how are you, or do you just jump in with a general fact of conversation? do you mind letting a conversation go ( Read more... )

What are some of your suggested books? I have waaay too much time to myself and am looking for some good books to read. :)

let's see... I have a bunch of political type books that were on the UM recommended reading list that looked interesting. right now I'm reading angels and demons, to later be followed by the da vinci code (I know, I'm behind!), harry potter of course starting on friday, this book that mrs. betel gave me called the alchemist, and then the book that state has to read for their summer reading, I forgot what it was called. if you want more specification on any of these titles, let me know!

I wait for everyone to IM me; I hardly ever IM others first. When I do IM others, I usually start with hello how are you, like I do a normal conversation, but if they IM me with a random fact/question, I go with it. I often do let conversations just sit if there is nothing left to say, because I'm busy doing something else online, which probably isn't a good habit. I usually do say goodbye to everyone I was talking to, because I don't want to be rude, but I've found that startles some people because they close the conversation box if nobody has said anything for awhile.

I think several people are planning to go to the Harry Potter Party at B&N, including Sam and Christy, just so you know.

Yes, they have Sparknoted the 5th HP book ^_^ and just because you reserved a copy doesn't mean you have to go pick it up on Friday night. I'd highly recommend it, but you don't have to.

And on AIM:
I always say bye and why I'm leaving (that's usually "ok im gonna go to bed now, byeee" to everyone.
