Well, I work Saturday, but not tomorrow. Where is the panhandle, and will you be at tomorrow nights rally? Im thinking of going to that one since Sat is already booked. If you aren't going, at least tell me where the panhandle is anyway. :)

I might be going tomorrow, but it depends on how much homework I get done by then. The panhandle is the skinny part of Golden Gate Park a few blocks north of Haight/Ashbury. What I read is that it is starting at Fell/Stanyan and going from there. Even if I don't make it to the march, I'll probably go to City Hall since I live 2 blocks away.

Thanks for the information. It's good to know there is something I can do locally. On a happier note, this Wednesday Love Makes a Family (our local gay rights PAC) is staging an event at City Hall in New Haven to celebrate the first gay marriages there. It took about a month to get started after the court ruling here because the Secretary of State's office had to get new marriage licenses printed with appropriate designations for the signers.
If you are interested in harassing the LDS for their role in this, a friend posted instructions for filing a complaint with the IRS asking that the LDS tax exempt status be revoked because of their political activity:

I don't blame the media, nor do I expect them to report on every event - though it is the only way for the (non-participatory) masses to learn about the scope of the events as they happen. It is true that events must be reported to the media in order for the media to attend them, and in the cases of the reported events (Candlelight Vigil, March to Dolores Park, Rally at the Capitol, etc.) the organizers of the events contacted all the local media (and in some cases, the national media). And that is key - the organizers are the ones who would report an event to the media, not just the average participant at an event - which is why someone on a street corner with a sign in his or her hand probably won't call or e-mail any member of the media when they plan to attend another event (most likely because they probably think someone else is doing that already). In addition, sitting around waiting for someone to call the media doesn't help the media find stories. Strong journalism happens when editors/producers/journalists are actively ( ... )
