So, I've been working on this post for about a week. At first it was just going to be a few of my thoughts about the finale. And then it morphed into...lol whatever it is now. It's not really a picspam (there are more words than pics under cut) but it kind of became that. I just kept adding and adding to it. If anyone reads the whole thing

I was really really over the Jack/Kate/Sawyer triangle, but I love loved the Jack/Kate in the finale. It's been like my Jack/Kate shipping resurrection which is so weird for me, I never expected it to happen. I had been waiting so long for the Sawyer/Juliet reunion though, so that was my favorite and the jears were flowing nonstop. And I'm so glad Penny got to be in the AU/purgatory/whatever we're calling it with Desmond. The brief scene where she has her head resting on his shoulder kills me.
The adventures of Richard, Miles, and Lapidus would be an awesome post-Lost sitcom.

It's great that we were introduced to Desmond & Ben, but Desmond was only in the first 3 eps (but basically repeating the same convo in each ep) and the season finale. And Ben literally just sat in the armory closet for 7 straight episodes having the same cryptic conversation with 20 different people.
And literally every single main character had a moment where they came off really obnoxiously. Of course none as bad as Michael or Charlie, but still!
The beginning of s3 is pretty awful. But from "Not In Portland" to the end I liked most of the eps (with the exception of Stranger In A Strange Land of course). Expose isn't even that bad, it's a filler ep but it was fun to see Hurley play detective. So overall 75% of the season is pretty awesome. And the end of s3 has some of the best eps ever.

This is an excellent recap.
When I first saw the ending, I was really angry and unsatisfied. The more I thought about it, the more I am at peace with it. And I even like it now. The thing that bothers me about Lost, in the end, probably doesn't even do with the writers that much when you think about it. JJ Abrams knew, from the start (supposedly), how he wanted the series to end. But he, Darlton and the writers didn't know how we'd all get there because they didn't know how long the series will last. So yes, some of the middle part of Lost is complicated and full of dropped plot points.
The Sun and Jin reunion, like you said, doesn't make sense. WHAT ABOUT ORPHAN BABY? Why wasn't she in the church, at least, in baby / toddler form? What selfish parents.
That cartoon of Hurley and Ben is so adorable. Who made it?
Anyway, everything you said about the show in this post... spot on. I think I'll use the memories function of LJ. (Does it work that way?)

That was pretty much exactly my reaction. At first I was irritated that the show was apparently ending exactly the way they always said it wouldn't. After rewatching, I realized that that wasn't the case at all. Of course, this is how it was always going to end. And I was elated at Sawyer/Juliet and Jack/Kate. Finally, ships I like are vindicated! It's about time.
The whole thing, what happened with every character, was emotionally very satisfying and I was happy with it.

I really liked that the AU was really just everyone getting to say goodbye after the fact. It really helped me to let go of the show as a whole. And I'm glad that it all mattered.

"The plane clears frame. Finally free of the island.
Jack Shephard has done what he came to this place to do.
He has found his purpose. He has found love and been loved.
He has finally found a way to love himself.
The bamboo sways across the blue sky, and Jack Shephard's eye closes one final time.
He is gone.
The End."
This was utterly beautiful. I'm glad they shared it with us, because that is a beautiful piece of writing.

I agree SO HARD with everything you said, especially Charlie and Claire, they bring me so much joy, and just everything. And I was a little bit weirded out about Jin and Sun as well, but maybe it's because they see Ji Yeon, and they know the have a chance to finally really get to know her after they move on that they're happy? But you're right - and that's why I loved James and Juliet's reunion so much more, you could tell that they remembered the moment that tore them apart, and it was awful, but with all the regret for the life they never got to lead, the joy at the fact that they found each other again was just SO WONDERFUL.
I will probably never get over this finale.

Maybe! Who knows where they'll end up going once the "light" hits them.

Me either! It was more wonderful than I could have imagined.
I love your icon! I need some more of Richard/Miles (and Frank).

But at least they found each other again!
I will miss this show forever. But I'm glad that in the end it held it up really well.
