Apparently a military aircraft (F-18 Hornet) crashed shortly before noon in San Diego. Fortunately no injuries or casualties reported yet (the pilot parachuted safely), though a couple houses were destroyed. [Update: three people were reported killed and one missing ( Read more... ) -

So far this week I've gotten very little work done. It's been difficult to work in my new office, partly due to the sunlight making my computer monitor difficult to read (blinds have supposedly been ordered, but haven't arrived yet), and partly because it's uncomfortable (got up to 81.5F today). I returned yesterday from the supercomputer conference. The trip back was pretty long, about 11 1/2 hours from leaving the hotel to arriving back at my apartment, and took three planes. The last two plane trips could have been condensed into a single car trip requiring less time, but I figure the more planes I fly, the faster I'll get over my ( Read more... ) -
