Back in the (theoretical) saddle again...

So. The weekend of the first, I went to Northern Region War Practice. For those who don't know, this is a practice/prep for Pennsic War. At this event you hone skills you will use for mass melee combat.
This is an event that we have been going to for a while now, and for the past few years I have sponsored a torchlight tournament, in Holmgang ( Read more... )

You have no idea how very happy this post has made me. I have tears in my eyes. I'm so proud of you. I know how hard it's been and how scary it must have been to get into the armor again and how exciting too. *grin*

You are my hero. :-)

My biggest problem with everyone saying I am a hero is that I have met the real thing, and while I am working to achieve a goal, it is just that. Trust me, a hero pays in blood and sacrifice, sometimes the ultimate sacrifice, to achieve a goal of saving a life or lives. I am not charging a machine gun nest with a grenade and a knife to protect my squad, or the equivalent. I accept inspiration. And hope to be worthy of said. This is a hard enough journey without hero status.
And you are one of my inspirations, so'syaknow. You have done your best to keep going, and have shown my my path, so to speak. You inspire me to go forward, in no small measure, because I hate to think of having to explain why I gave up to you.

*grin* Heroes come in all forms and for all kinds of reasons. You are a hero for not giving in no matter how hard and frustrating the path was. You don't have to face gunfire to be a hero. And even if the life you save is your own..that is still heroism. Don't let the super patriotic rhetoric deny you the right to be a hero. You are. Deal. :-)

I accept that you think I am a hero, and I hope to live up to the title.

To live well you must exercise mind and body.

To Fight for crown you must exercise your mind and body.

If I were a fighter what regimen would you give me to be fit to fight for next spring crown?

Practice and get fit. There are many routes to the prize, some twisty and some straight. Decide you want to do it, and practice for it, and build strength.

I know my last answer was sorta vague, but in the quick, it was all of the answer I could give. Now, in the flush, I can give a better answer as I have thought more upon it.
The regimen I would give to you would have to be balanced to how you learn. I would not teach you the same way I would teach Wee Cullen, or Neffie, etc. Nor can I teach myself the way another learns. It is easy to teach the 'book learning' part of a skill, you can go as easy as say to them "read the book, ask me questions if you need.". I am a bit more hands on here, because it is my style. The hands on portion is where I tend to find that I have to adjust my style to how people learn. I have learned with some people, I have to spoon feed them, while others kinda watch what I do and then mimmic as best as able, and almost resent interference of any sort, including feedback. It is all a balancing game between too much and too little. I hope this helps as an answer. I have found that saying x and expecting y works only now and then.
As to my regimen, I will ( ... )

Whoo!

FvH says he told you to do it, just don't push it. I have to agree. He had a knee injury they said had ended his fighting days some 20-ish years ago, and has squires in that same boat now. So...

Keep doing it.

Best wishes to you and Stefka.

No desire to push it. I just want to be on the field, partaking in the battles as best as able. If that means training folks the triad system he taught me years (and years and years...) ago, that is what I will do. I will recondition my body and it will get easier for me, and I have plans for armour that makes it easier to be on the field, but I will stop before I fall down. I can still use a pole weapon, and weapon and shield, and spear, and even great weapon. Right now I do so slowly, but I have to relearn everything, and that takes time. Heck, I can even do siege and combat archery. And I might take a swing at light combat (no pun intended).
