Questions & Answers
Q: How long does it take for my application to be accepted?
One week. If it starts to get close to two weeks, please, do e-mail the mods.
Q: I don't have a LiveJournal account./I don't want to publicly post with my LiveJournal account. Can I post anonymously?
If this is the case, please e-mail the mods rather than posting in the thread.
Q: If I would like to apply for a character that has already been reserved, is it possible to challenge said player by posting your own application along with his/hers and letting the mods make their decision between the two?
No. The reservations are there for that exact reason: so that the player isn't challenged by another application. You would have to wait for said reservation to expire.
Q: Can I apply as an original character?
No.
Q: What kind of characters can I apply with?
We're currently only accepting characters from canon. TV shows, manga, cartoons, books, and comics, the likes of these. We're not accepting real people.
Q: My character doesn't have an avatar (he/she is from a novel). Can I used an actor/actress/musician as my avatar?
Yes, you can, as long as nobody else is using your avatar of choice already.
Q: I would rather have my avatar drawn by me. Is this all right?
Yes, as long as it follows canon (if a character is an ugly looking man with no hair, you're not going to draw a blonde, beautiful elf).
Q: I have a problem with a certain player. What do I do about it?
Unless it concerns IC gaming, all OOC conflict is out of our hands, so try to solve it. Otherwise, contact a mod. If you can't, then just avoid that person. Remember that IC is not OOC, so if you are offended by something the character said, remember the player is not trying to say you are this or that. However, if that was OOC for his/her character, do contact a mod due to blatant mocking.
Q: Who the hell are the mods?
We're not going to tell who we are because we don't want to neither intimidate nor be pressured into favouritism. If this bothers you, we're sorry. We just want everyone to know that nobody is playing favourites here. 'Cause we never will.
Q: My character is super powerful. What do I do?
All characters are going to be significantly toned down. Innocence may be the one guilty of this troublesome detail.
Q: My character has a super powerful item. What do I do?
All magically enhanced or otherwise powerful items will now me mere normal items (for example, a sword with the power to cut through anything will now just be a sword).
Q: What do the characters eat? Where do they find food, money, and other goodies?
There is always food in the Train Station's service station. The food there may be even worse than airplane food, but it's food. It seems that the Six don't want anyone to starve. There is also a kitchen in the back, for those who like to entertain themselves. They can work for money as employees of the various stores, but never in the night shift.
Q: What is the currency around the city?
It's called Ssek (sign will be §) and its equivalent to the Swedish Kronor. A conversion can be found
here.
Q: How do my characters contact each others?
The Network is a closed system that can only be accessed by the PDA sized laptops all characters end up with.
Q: What is the rules about strikes?
We leave it up to everyone's criteria, but default-wise, they are easily hackable pieces of information, unless otherwise stated.
Q: Where are we supposed to post?
Characters will use their own journals to post. Logs will be posted at
stopped_rpg.
Q: How does time work here?
48 hours life equals one day in here.
Q: How does the network work? Are icons viewable?
It's an intranet, meaning you can only access it through the given PDAs. All PDAs are personal and cannot be accessed by others. Icons are not viewable, but the PDAs can record a movie of low quality (400x300 pixels) for one minute, but you cannot videochat through it, and you may record sound for one minute and take low quality photographs. You may filter and lock posts, as long as your character knows how to. UNHACKABLE and HACKABLE are the only options for locked posts. The network is very simple, more like BlogSpot rather than LiveJournal.
Q: Do the devices all translate to one language? And if they do what about videos?
In this world, everyone will speak the same universal language, but it will sound like the person's native language to each one. With time, however, they will begin to notice they are indeed not talking English/Japanese/French/Other and grow accustomed to the language of this world. Then they may start speaking two languages (the universal one and their native one).
Q: What kind of city is this?
Although modern technology survived, half of the city seems to be destroyed. Think of it as any big urbanization after way too many earthquakes. Some parts of the city are being rebuilt, some still stand.
Q: What is it called?
It doesn't have a name. Just call it the City. Or nickname it - hey, it might be catchy enough to be official.
Q: If the people in the city ignore the characters, how do the characters get jobs or buy things? Will the citizens talk/answer when threatened? Can they be hurt or killed?
They acknowledge their existence, they just don't want to be associated with them for fear of being cursed. Of course, if they're threatened physically, just like anyone else, they will most likely answer. They can be hurt or killed, but that would lead to the character being arrested and trialled if someone reports it to the police.
Q: Can't I just fly/sail/swim/run out of the City?
No, not really. The closer you get to the outskirts to the City, the closer you get to the Shadows, and the click click click, scratch scratch hiss will end up eating you.
Q: And what kind of shops are there/what kind of items can be bought?
They can find your everyday shops around here. Convenience shops, mini markets, anything our current world has, this world will have. Of course, the prices are higher for certain things you'd take for granted over here. You don't see many cars around, only extremely wealthy people have them. Most use bicycles or their own two feet to walk around; besides, most streets are too narrow and/or with buildings crashed on the streets for them to use private transportation. There are stores that sell firearms, but they will be expensive, given as there are very little around and there is virtually no-one that produces them any more.
Q: Does my character know where they are?
Father tends to try to come in contact to the first inhabitants, but they can always scream their demandings into the network.
Q: Where are the Six?
They can flicker back and forth from the Dirge Plane to the City, but they tend to keep a low profile.
Q: What is the Dirge Plane?
The Dirge Plane is a world your character gets pulled in every night, if they step out of the Train Station. It looks like a macabre version of the City.
Q: What are Dirge Dwellers?
What the Six tend to call the characters.
Q: Does this actually have a plot?
Yes! Definitely! Of course, like any good plot, we can't give it away right now, but there's an interesting storyline we're working on.
Q: What are the Childes? How can I kill them?
The Childes are the monsters that live in the Dirge. They feed on people and especially on Dirge Dwellers. You can't yet kill them. Even if you have super powers, they become quite useless in the Dirge. Wait for a while. The Six will come to aid.
Q: My character is out at night. Now what?
The Childes absolutely hate light. They can't stand it. So, the best thing to do is to always carry a lantern, or stand as close as you can to light.
Q: Hey! When can my character kill a Dirge Childe?
We assure you, this is part of the plot. Stay around for a while, you'll see what we mean.
