I dream. I am standing in a field, leaning on a rough fence, the fence of my yard. But the field is on a hill, surrounded by other hills of short yellowed grass like you find in drought. There was this man who was my area manager when I worked at the HMV store in Pitt Street Mall, way back last century in the early 1990s. Unless I cook my Nan's roast potatoes on Christmas day, its is'nt really Christmas. When I was cooking, I had a sudden flash of memory, of walking from the newsagent on Lyons Road in Drummoyne with my grandfather, to his house in Budd Street.

What I would love is if the phone rang and the person said "So what are you doing" and when I answer,

"oh Im making some art", they said.

"Oh really, what are you making?"

I'd probably die of shock and end up in hospital. It just makes me more withdrawn, less inclined to take an interest in others, more likely to just ignore the phone altogether. ( Read more... )

For a brief time in 1983, as a teenage runaway, I stayed in a youth refuge in the boring backstreets of whiter than white Hurstville. I'm so sad this morning to learn that my friend  unclecliffy has passed away. We have been friends online since about 2004, from way back in the Livejournal days, and although we have never met in person, we have Zoomed every Monday almost without fail, for years. The housing estate on Elliot Street was all pensioners and older people some of whom had been through horrific circumstances in their lives to land in this safe place. Yesterday was very windy, so I only walked round the block with a coffee. Met Kim to get drawings back. She said the publishers are interested in having me do another book!!
