Chapter Forty-One
Zak entered his quarters and sat down on the sofa, closing his eyes with relief. It had been a long day.
Not as tiring as it could have been, though. After three weeks as commander of Pegasus, he felt he was finally starting to get a handle on things. Although it had helped that he wasn’t a complete newcomer to the ship

“There was a reason.” He met her eyes, feeling as if he was stepping off the edge of a cliff, but determined to say it. To finally take that risk. “I love you.”
So. Sweet.
“A friend?” Emma snorted. “Lee, I’m your oldest friend, and once I heard you were out of surgery and stabilised, I left and got some sleep. I certainly didn’t spend all night sitting by your bed and holding your hand. That definitely requires more than friendship.”
Too funny. And also very true. I don't understand why no one had told him this before.
“Well, how about this then?” said Emma, watching him with amusement. “She told Zak she loved you.”
Well that was a lot more satisfactory than my cricket bat.
Thank you for another great installment. I can't believe that it is almost over now, and that the pilots finally figured each other out.

I don't understand why no one had told him this before.
Probably because they thought Kara had told him she was there - I suspect the other characters may not be fully aware of the depths of pilot miscommunication and emotional idiocy.

Glad you enjoyed it. Well, I had to relent and let them have their happy ending sometime. :)

Woohoo!!!!!! I'm beaming with happiness with right. The partner switch is finally complete and it makes me giddy.
Hurray, that's just the reaction I was going for. :D
I loved how Emma was the one to clarify things for Lee, poor guy not understanding what Kara meant. Lol.
Well, you know how they say men are from Caprica, women are from Virgon...mind you, Kara is probably from a planet all of her own, she's not exactly easy to understand. But I thought Lee could do with a helping hand, or we could have been here for another ten chapters, LOL.

--*g* I quite like it as well. If you're interested there are a few other ones done in the same style here: http://all-my-fandoms.livejournal.com/2878.html

Lee felt a surge of relief. He was winning. He just had to keep on pushing. If *that* isn't EXACTLY what needs to happen, I'll eat my hat and I only own 3 so that would be a loss! She's not going to spontaneously open up and all evidence to the contrary, she's not the brave one - he is!
YAHOO!!!!

Certainly! :D

Oh, in this kind of situation, he definitely is. He usually seems to be the one to take a risk and put his feelings out there when they have this kind of discussion in the show.

Well, after all that time they spent in her office doing paperwork in earlier chapters, it seemed only fair they got to use the desk for something more fun. ;)

I'm relieved to hear it! Glad you enjoyed it, and there's a nice happy epilogue to follow.

Well, my Zak is anyway. Though probably because Lee sheltered him somewhat from all the parental issues, benefit of being younger. As you say, the advantages of being an AU Adama. (Well that and he managed to fall for a woman this time who will actually admit that she's attracted to him back without having to angst for months).
Took the words right out of my mouth, did my girl. Lee really needs a sidekick to set him straight and sort him out on a regular basis.
He does. Usually I have to use Helo and Kara for this kind of 'knocking sense into pilots' scene, so it was nice to be able to use two different characters for a change.
You gotta love Lee's strategy for winning the girl. Challenge her hard enough and she just might give in.
Well, it makes sense when dealing with Kara - she can never resist a challenge.
Oh, would you look at that! They locked it, even if it is an office and they didn't need alcohol ( ... )
