Title: Practice makes perfect, chapter 5
Paring: Haehyuk, side Teukchul and Sibum
Rating: PG ~ NC-17 (PG for this chapter)
Summary: Donghae is one of the most popular guys in his school but his studies aren't going that well. He needs help with his the studies but all he wants to do is dance and sing. Eunhyuk on the other hand is not a popular kid and he's doing really well with his studies. What happens when the two of them suddenly have to study together?

<-- previous--

Donghae had made food for himself and his mom. She hadn't come home yet and it was getting late already, but Donghae had gotten pretty used to being alone after he came home from school. Still he wanted to wait till she came home so that they could eat together and have their moment together.

The food was cooled down when Donghae decided to eat alone and put the rest of the food to the fridge where his mom could take it when she came home.  He looked at his watch, 7:38pm. He had plenty of time to do his homework... or then he could just leave them and do them tomorrow. The latter opinion sounded better.

He could call Siwon if he could keep him company. And with that Donghae went to living room, took his cell phone from their coffee table and searched Siwon's number, which he found easily.

He let the phone ring and ring but it seemed like Siwon didn't have his phone with him right now. Donghae frowned and tried again. It wasn't unusual that Siwon didn't pick up to the first try since his parent's didn't like him keeping the phone always with him. 'It wasn't good for a perfect son.'

"Yah! Siwon, why didn't you pick up earlier?" Donghae shouted playfully as soon as Siwon pressed the green button.

"Uuh... Hey Dong-HAE...!" Siwon spluttered out. His voice was high-pinned and a little too hoarse for Siwon.

"Where are you?" Donghae asked, for pure curiosity. He had never had this weird phone conversation with Siwon! And this was so unlike for Siwon to speak like that, sputtering and hardly understandable.

"Ho-home..." There was a sound like he had covered the mic of his phone by his hand. And Donghae was right, though it didn't cover the words Siwon said on the other side of the line and Donghae could clearly hear Siwon cursing. "Fuck you... Kibum!"

If Donghae had had something in his mouth right at the moment, he would have burst it all out. Siwon never sweared! Donghae had never heard him using any curse. And now it was damn clear to Donghae why Siwon sounded so weird. And because of some weird reason his lips curled up into a smirk as he spoke again.

"Forget that I ever called you. Hae fun with your Bummie." He made sure Siwon could hear his smirk from his voice but before Siwon could answer to him, Donghae pressed the 'end' button and tossed his phone to the couch.

He didn't know why he was still smiling. Maybe it was because his best friend had finally became a man as he had cursed or because of what Siwon was doing with Kibum. He had no idea. But the smile was soon gone when he remembered why he had called Siwon in the first place.

He definitely couldn't spend time with Siwon since he was already having fun with Kibum. It was Monday so Leeteuk would be busy with his homework. Donghae would never ask Heechul to spend time with him because he had done that mistake once already and ended up drinking with Heechul and in the end of the night he had found himself throwing up after watching Heechul and Leeteuk's love-making video. He definitely did not want to see anything like that even again in his life! Not because they weren't hot and sexy when they had done it but because they were like his biological hyungs and it was gross.

It had taken Donghae over a week before could face Leeteuk again. And Leeteuk hadn't even know why Donghae had avoided both of his hyungs before Heechul told him what he had shown to their dear dongsaeng and... it wasn't pretty sight. Leeteuk had gotten furious and jumped onto Heechul, knocking both of them over and yelled and hit -slapped- Heechul, who had only laughed whole time like he'd gone insane. Later Leeteuk had apologized Donghae what he had seen when Heechul on the other hand had whispered to him that they should do something like that together sometime, like threesome!

The only opinion what was left for Donghae to spend time seemed to be homework. He groaned and dragged his feet to his room and sat on his chair, pulling his Mandarin book from his bag.

Music on and I'm quickly done. He encouraged himself and grabbed a pen from his desk and opened the book in front of him.

It was almost 10pm when Donghae finally closed his school book. He had done all the homework from last week, what he hadn't done yet.

He walked out of his room to the kitchen in attention to take something to eat. He opened the fridge and when he saw the food he had made for his mom, he realized she still hadn't come home. She often worked late but never this late. And she always told him if she was going to buy food or went to yoga right after work. Today she hadn't said anything.

Donghae dialoged her number and tried to call her. Once. Twice. She didn't answer even to his third call. The phone just kept on ringing. Donghae tried to keep himself calm. But horrible thoughts roamed into his mind. Where she could be? What if something bad happened? What if she got into a car accident? What if someone has... Donghae shook the last thought off of his head before he could even finish the sentence. No, she must have just forgotten her phone to her work and she'll be home soon...

But he was wrong. He sat on the couch for over two hours, falling asleep and waking up, always in hope to find his mom home, but she wasn't there.

It was over 3am when Donghae woke to the sound of someone opening their front door. He had to blink at least twice before he remembered why he had been sleeping on the couch and not in his bed. He woke up totally when his mom put on the lights to the living room and to the kitchen and he had to cover his eyes from the lightness.

She didn't see Donghae laying on the couch but she got scared when he suddenly opened his mouth.

"You didn't tell me you're coming home this late." His voice was hoarse and his anger was clearly heard from it. He didn't bother to sit up, only covered his eyes better by his arm. He didn't want to see her face since he knew he wouldn't like her expression, whether it was angry or scared or apologetic or just surprised.

"Why aren't you in bed?" She asked nonchalantly and ignored what Donghae said, totally. And that made Donghae even more angry. But the way she asked her question was a clear sign for Donghae that this was not going to end up into a hug. But he wasn't just going to let her go easily.

"Why weren't you home? Why didn't you pick up when I called you?"

"Don't talk to me like that, Lee Donghae." She was getting angry and Donghae knew it as she dropped her keys to kitchen's table. When she went to entry he got up and opened his eyes, trying to get used to the bright lights in the room.

"Talk to you like what?! Do you have any God damn idea what time is?!" Donghae shouted to her. He was getting furious to her if she only kept on ignoring his questions. He had been home all alone and she didn't even bother to apologize nor tell where the hell she had been all night.

"I could ask you the same thing." She answered curtly. "Go to sleep."

Donghae was about to yell at her but when he opened his mouth, she appeared to the living room and added: "Now." It was the last thing she said before she went to her bedroom. Donghae looked at the closed door, shocked. She had the dress on. She never wore that dress. The last time she had used it was when their family had been whole, his father had been alive, when their family was happy.

Donghae removed his thoughts from his mind when he realized a few tears flowing down on his cheeks. He got up, switched off the lights and went to his room but he couldn't fall asleep anymore. Painful (but beautiful) memories and thoughts of why she had come home this late took over his mind as he covered himself with his blanket.

~~~
"Donghae, come on! We need to go!" His mom shouted to him from downstairs. It was nice and sunny summer day when Donghae had been around 6 years old. She had promised to him to take him to the beach nearby.
"I'm coming!" Donghae yelled back and grabbed his bag from the door of his room as he ran to his parents. He was in the half way of the staircase when he stepped onto the leash of his bag. He lost his balance and fall down the stairs with a loud scream of pain.
His parents had been packing the car outside and had run back in when they heard Donghae's scream. His dad came first and found Donghae from the floor, holding his right knee and crying. He had a bleeding cut on his forehead. His dad knelt beside him and took Donghae into his arms, trying to calm him while he mentioned his wife to get something cold and wet.
"Where does it hurt, Donghae?" He asked and caressed Donghae's tears away but he couldn't stop Donghae's tearing. The boy motioned his knee. He had a huge cut on it and it was bleeding much more than the cut on his head. "I see..." His father said and bent down to blow on it. The curing-blow. It made Donghae smile a little through his sobs and tears. "Feels better?" He asked as he noticed Donghae's small smile. Donghae nodded and gave him a hug.
His dad hugged him back before he turned his head so that he didn't shout into his ear:
"Honey, can you get me a bandage? I think it's better if we take him to first-aid." His mom was coming from kitchen with a wet towel in her hands. She gave it to her husband, who trapped it around Donghae's knee, and went back to kitchen to get a bandage.
She soon came back with it and gave it to Donghae's dad. He bandaged his knee carefully so that he wouldn't hurt him more and put a plaster onto the cut in his forehead.
"Let's go." He smiled to the young boy and lifted him up. He carried him to the car and asked his wife to drive. He wanted to sit next to his son on the back seat to make sure he felt better. And he carried Donghae all the way into the doctor's room and kept hold on his hand all the time when the doctor checked his knee. He needed a few stitches to it but it was going to get as good as it had been, without any permanent damages.
