Thanks to blackletter's shoutout, I have oodles of useful feedback on my grief request below. ( So I thought it might be a good moment to explain why I need rules. ) -
Rules of engagement.
I'm trying to think up rules for grieving. There are all sorts of artificial time constraints, systems of understanding the process, things one is supposed to DO...it's very open-ended. An injunction against ellipses.
Agent blog guest post that is mostly old hat, if nicely condensed. But the ellipses avoidance in dialogue rule is one I hadn't heard before. I like it. Parens and ellipses are to be avoided anyway, and em-dashes used sparingly.http -
