We had a great sleep last night in a nice big soft bed so we slept in a bit - we got up at 8:15. We managed to leave just after 9 and decided to take Bloor Street downtown because I thought it might be less busy. Bad idea because it had a lot of lights on it and it was very busy!! It was a very cold night last night and I had a hard time sleeping! I kept dreaming about my ring! When we got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, we found that our lantern batteries were dead so we had to walk all the way down to the flush toilets because I refused to go in a pit toilet in the dark!! We woke up very refreshed this morning and we on the road by 8:45. It was beautiful and sunny and there was no sign of the storm from last night. We stopped at a fantastic lookout point over Lake Superior and a nice woman from Indiana took our picture. Well, Daryl got his wish last night - we experienced a fantastic thunderstorm. It started in the distance at about 11 but didn't hit us until 2am and lasted until about 5. It was the most incredible thunder and lightning storm I've ever experienced - the lightning flashes lasted minutes and lit up the entire sky! The skies opened and the rain came ( Read more... )

Today Daryl and I got to explore Winnipeg! I'm really glad that we were able to take a break from driving and explore the city because we saw lots of cool things! I guess I fell asleep in the middle of a CSI episode cause when I woke up at 4 in the morning to go to the bathroom, I wasn't even in the sleeping bag! It was an extremely warm night so I didn't even notice that I was only under one blanket. I woke up at 7 this morning and decided to have a shower before anyone else got up. I ended up having a beautifully hot and long shower in total peace, in what seemed like my own private bathroom! We woke up with the sun this morning and had a nice (but COLD) walk to the wash house. It's beautiful around here but I don't think I could handle it being 3 degrees in the morning, even on a hot August day!! After getting up at 6:15 to shower and finish any last minute packing, Mum and I drove out to Daryl's for 8:00. I was a little apprehensive about Mum driving my car home but she called me when she got back and let me know that she had it safely parked under a tree in our second driveway.  Daryl and I walked up to Avis to pick up our rental car. Well, I'm pretty much all packed and ready to go. Tomorrow, Daryl and I leave bright and early on our trip across Canada (well to Ontario) and then we will be coming back through the Northern United States.
