this is certainly turning into a shit show, and not one I really want to be a part of. I do have to say that I find it irresponsible to claim that asking their guests to contact their hosts before calling the police in instances of non-imminent cases of harm is being stated as being worse than rape. No one said that, no one said don't call the police if you are being assaulted,no one said rapists are more acceptable than police. This is purposely trying to imply that the hosts aren't willing to protect their guests and that guests should not feel safe in their home.

I haven't attended in entirely too long, but thank you for all of the love and effort that you and roozle have put into opening your home to so many guests over the years.

I too wish to say that I greatly appreciate the time and effort you've put into hosting your parties. It is thanks to you that I have met many interesting people in the area.

@sunspiral, Could you explain why you have such a serious level of concern about the police being called?

Sure. My observations of police conduct, my interactions with them, and the experiences of many friends of mine with police lead me to have a deep distrust of them.

Duplicating (with some edits) a comment I made elsewhere that sums up my thoughts as an occasional party host on involving the cops (mind you, I haven't had much in the way of negative interaction with the cops personally, and in fact have a relative in law enforcement ( ... )

I've never been to one of your parties, but I've long been aware that they are an essential component of the glue that holds this (loosely defined) community together, and that you and roozle do a lot of hard and excellent work to keep them going and to make them better all the time. I'm sorry you've had to deal with all this. Thanks for everything you do.

I know these kinds of things are never fun to have to write, and I know you have gotten some rough feedback based on the Party Safety and Wellbeing section. I know why you have the policy--I read the comments and can infer some additions based on the relevant one regarding police and trust. When You Have Energy (and The Brain to look at it again, meaning I am not commanding Do It Now but asking you to consider it before the next party) you might want to put something in the addenda about what you consider life-threatening and possibly how long "immediate" is.

My inner editor also suggests moving the final sentence of the Party Safety and Wellbeing, and make it the first sentence. It modifies impact--currently it's intensity progression, progression, progression, then major slowdown at the end, which might undercut the point you want hammered home.

I am saddened by the events that led to this and certain of the consequences. I am not looking forward to the fallout and hope it will be minimal in the medium-to-long term.
