The main thing that sucks about Russia in the winter is not the cold, but the darkness. According to the official sunrise and sunset table, right now the sun rises at 8:30 am and sets at 4:43 pm, although it doesn't seem like all that long ago that it was rising at 10:00 and setting at 4:00. I hate remont.

Especially since my building's walls are made of cement. It makes the whole building shake when someone is drilling into them.

I thought I had escaped this when I moved here. It is a lot better but sometimes it starts up, and now is one of those times.

Arrgh.

When we were coming home for an extended Christmas break away from Moscow, we had to go through the most awful place on earth: Sheremetyevo Airport. Whereas I personally associate airports with the future, and thus with shiny things like glass and steel, the Soviet minds that built this place thought that a good material to use would be cement. i just got back from a party for my boyfriend's magazine at a club called "rai," which is the russian word for heaven. apparently, heaven involves strippers, ipod-commercial-style video screens with naked girls wearing boas, and gigantic elephants with lasers coming out of their eyes. get ready, because heaven is going to be awesome. and possibly ( Read more... )
