Oh my goodness!
A bat??
They're protected, you know, so you could always ring the council. That's what my dad did when he found one in his office.
Of course, you have to find it first...

Finding it is a problem, when it isn't creeping me out by zooming round my bedroom it disappears. If I find it in the daytime I can easily pick it up (with gloves on) and return it outside.
I'd have to tidy up before a bat catcher could search my house LOL!
No wonder Snape makes people nervous. One minute you think he's an adorable darling, the next minute he makes you want hide under the covers.

protected bats? aaaaah

I've nothing constructive to add. This did remind me of the time my pet ferret got loose from his cage, and crawled into bed with me. Oh, waking up to the feeling of a rodent scooting along the side of my body under the sheets. He thought it was playtime, I was petrified for hours seconds until I figured out what it was.

Hope you get rid of your bat soon!

A ferret! In bed with you! Yikes!
We've never had ferrets as pets, my dad always said they were lovely and intelligent with good pet potential but had a strong smell. Then again my dad loved all animals and birds in about the same way that Hagrid does. :)
I'm fascinated myself because they look so gorgeous.

I think it's in what will be the master bedroom but I can't find it unless it's flying. That room is open to the roof trusses and it could be up there or at the back of the 'hayloft' feature for which I haven't had a ladder made yet. It's like searching a barn for it. I hope it goes out the windows tonight.

Do you still have your cat? (You had a cat, didn't you?) Or maybe could borrow someone's indoorish cat. Of course, that wouldn't be a good thing for the bat, :(

We have a couple of gecko's inside our house. Little bitty things about 1 1/2 inches long and really weird looking. I think they got in via the weep holes in our brick siding. I don't really have a problem with them although I'm a little squeamish about maybe stepping on them when/if I get up in the middle of the night.

Sorry you're losing sleep. Hope you catch it soon.

My cat is 24 this year and probably wouldn't even see the bat unless it flew across his nose. :) He does still hunt and bring trophies home for me but young silly things that get too close like fledgling birds or small field mice. No more struggling to get full grown rabbits through the cat flap for him. He takes his time to get himself through it these days being a bit stiff in one back leg.
We don't get geckoes here but I remember them in the middle east, I used to quite like them too.

Well it came down the chimney in the other room. The silly thing - no wonder it was so jet black. I just did a quick search of the house again and found a sootfall in the hearth, a sprinkle of soot in the middle of the room and one bat dropping on the stone floor. So at least the mystery of how it got in is solved and I don't have to worry about an entire colony ( ... )
