What a week!

One of my old lecturers from England (J.S.) tried to contact me via my prof at Stanford (she forwarded his email) to ask me to write a book review. I would love to, of course, but am a bit puzzled as to why he didn't ask his secretary for my email address instead of writing off to a prof at a university that he didn't know to have accepted me. I spent today and yesterday in Cologne, visiting the parents, V. and T. Weirdly enough I don't have this instant feeling of "I am at home here" anymore when I'm there. Rather I felt like I was coming home when I got off the train here in Heidelberg. Strange. Also somehow Cologne seems shabbier and less friendly than it used to be. Hm. Maybe I'm ( Read more... )

For anyone happening to stumble across this: I have just started this journal because I will be a PhD student at the Stanford anthropology department from September. Which is why a) I think I will have a lot of new experiences and will probably need a place to vent them and b) it would be prudent to have a journal to joiin all these nice academic ( Read more... )
