I so thought the church that I have been going to for a year now was a good place for me. I have been told, "You've got to stop running away from churches! There isn't a church that's perfect

It's been a series of things building up for the past year....really too long of a story to write here. I am really going to try to make a car trip east some time this year.....maybe we can "catch up" then.
I'll come to your new church. I love the episcopal church but when I start questioning their deep seeded beliefs (the immaculate conception, raising people from the dead, the resurrection and ascension, and declaring crazy people saints) they look at me funny. Oh well, at least they allow birth control and woman priests.
I had a wonderful RE (religious education) teacher at high school. He was an ordained Church of Scotland minister but carefully explained how every "miracle" in the bible could be explained by natural phenomena of simple human reactions. He made me look at religion more clearly and that was when I decided it wasn't for me. I accept that others have their beliefs and I'm happy for them :-)
Appart from that - all religions seem to me man-dominated! Bah! Humbug!
Yeah.......I had a great world religion professor myself. There are a lot of things about religions that I don't care for, but I can't seem to get give up my love for Jesus. He's been my best friend since I was a kid. I do believe the worlds religions, and the whole structure of "Christendom" would have been different if the Gospel of Thomas would have been accepted into the Catholic bible. In that gospel Jesus refers to his Mother and Father in heaven, and he's not referring to Mary....therefore the religions would not have been man-dominated but rather balanced. I can only imagine how much better we would have been treated by the men in the world!
I have a tendency to think that no matter what church you belong to, it is up to us how to interpret it's meaning in our lives. Use the symbology in a manner that makes sense to you. No two people are going to agree on how the Word is interpreted.
Yeah....that no two people agreeing is why we have so many churches!! I tend to agree with you.....it's easier for me to see God in nature. But I do long for community.
What's to stop you going to a certain an church...and having your own particular view of the world/religion? That's we Hindu generally do. I may visit (or not!) the same temple as my friend or neighbour...and we may pray to different gods there (or at home), and we generally have no problems with that! It's only if your church that you must stick entirely to its template, that any problem might occur.
The Hindu tradition seems to be much more open and accepting than the Christian one! Once the Protestant split from the Roman Catholic it's been "My Church is better than your Church!"....Thus there are now 36 different denominations (listed on Wikipedia anyway)
That does not even count when the main stream Baptist branch off from the Southern Baptist....etc. etc.

There's nothing wrong with that. I think His message was very simple and true. IMO, it's always the church "structure" which messes that up.

Myself...I prefer to see God in nature.
