2009 Nationals Day 4: Friends of Figure Skating Breakfast & Mens Finals
Despite the massive disorganization and lack of communication on the part of United States Figure Skating, I was able to confirm my ticket on Monday -- two days before flying out here -- for this year's Friends of Figure Skating Breakfast. 2009 Nationals Day 3: Pairs, Dance, and Ladies Finals
After two late nights and not the best quality of sleep, I was thoroughly pooped on Saturday morning. I told Martha (the innkeeper) to bump breakfast back to 10:00 a.m., since we were both up really late. She picked me up from the arena, and we didn't get home until midnight. Egads! I just signed into LiveJournal for the first time in 50 weeks. I guess it's appropriate since I only use this to keep people updated on the National skating championships. U.S. Nationals Day 5: Men's Free Skate
My day began 6:00. I had to be at the arena by 8:30 for the Friends of Figure Skating Thank You Breakfast. I found free street parking roughly across the street from the XCel Energy Center, only to realize as soon as I shut off my car that I left my tickets to the Men's Competition back at my Bed and Breakfast! Saturday was a long day -- the first competitions began at 8:45 a.m. Between the Mens Short programs ending at 10:30 Friday, getting back to Afton even later, and not being able to sleep well, I wasn't in good shape for the early rounds of Pairs Free Skate. Another cold, blustery day in St. Paul. I spent my entire day in the city, but I couldn't think of much to do! The Museum of Science wasn't too far from central downtown, but I didn't even want to try going there, as those places tend to be expensive, and if it's anything like Boston's, I probably wouldn't like it. Without tickets to the Dance competitions, I had to find some way to pass the time on Thursday. I headed off to the Mall of America in the early afternoon but made it through the entire mall by 3:00. Once I saw IKEA was right across the street, I didn't hesitate to go there to pick up a few things that I've needed from there for about a year ( Read more... )
