College is basically 1/8 over. That isn't very much, I guess, but it kind of is.

Things I have learned from reading through many a small-town newspaper for internship-related purposes:

1) Scranton, Pennsylvania is a real place. (And the people there are probably kind of annoyed that their city is a national symbol of awkwardness and crushed dreams.)
2) People in Tennessee use the word "tom-foolery".

Guys.
Nobody in Texas appreciates the invisible cabbage joke.
It's pretty devastating.
That is all.

For the third time in a year, I have missed the chance to see Regina Spektor.
Damn it, damn it, damn it.

Good thing there's still the Hold Steady and Sondre Lerche to assuage my pain.

Here is the thing. I have this opportunity to go to Iowa this winter and work on some campaign or other (the immediate opportunity is to work on the Edwards campaign, but there's a good chance I could be set up to work for someone else if I so chose). Problem #73 about college is that campus life is way more interesting than not failing all my classes. I am taking on two internships and a job if I can find one, White Rose stuff, Burma stuff, at some point I swear to God I'm going to start a slam, and I have no idea what my GPA is going to be and I don't even want to think about it at this point ( Read more... )

Day over! Stress-free weekend!

And by stress-free I mean: two volunteer meetings, a lot of rally-planning, 100+ pages of reading, and this fair-trade symposium thing that will take up all of Sunday. "Stress" has a different meaning these days.

Tonight my world lit class went to our professor's house for dinner and he showed us, among other things, the picture of a dancing man that Charles Bukowski drew for his wife one time when she was sad. He is unequivocally cool ( Read more... )
