Go me! I ran the Ras Na hEireann 5K today! It starts and ends here in scenic Davis Square, which is to say it practically came to me. It took a while (winner finished in 14:29, I finished in 45:14) but I finished, and I actually ran most of it.

Hot Sour Salty Sweet by Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid. I want to be these guys, and not just because they are Canadian. They spent the better part of a year travelling down the Mekong River, then came back and wrote a travelogue/cookbook. Gorgeous photos too. Road trip to Vientiane anyone? Much stir-frying. I want a gas stove. Waah.

Tibetan food v.v.good when weather turns Himalayan. Big bowl of hot spicy curry stew, 2 fist-sized balls of steamed bread, salad and 2 veggie dumplings for $7.00 in Davis Square. I pat my stuffed belly in appreciation.

Tomorrow's weather forecast: a rather more tropical 50 degrees. Perhaps I'll eat South Indian or something. Mmm, sambar.

Still here. Eating reasonably well. The newish Tibetan place in Davis Sq. turns out to have yummy soups for small money. Soup & a spicy potato naan on a cold day, mmm.

Today I saw a White. Stretch. Hummer. trying to turn from Mass. Ave. onto (fairly small) Russell St. It had to run its rear wheels up onto the sidewalk to do it, poor thing. It was sooo bizarre. I was too gobsmacked to count windows, but I think it was about eight more than usual on each side. Its whiteness and stretchyness really reduced its ( Read more... )
