I think one of my biggest pet peeves re this whole Monsoon issue is how people are surprised that Magnus kissed a woman since she's been 'straight' up until this point. That implies that sexuality is a solid, a constant, an unmoving, unevolving factor in one's personality. If you really study the psychology, in theory, of someone nearly three ( Read more... )

Right! I can even agree with the fact it seemed out of place. Damian could have very well added more sexual subtext throughout the episode, but I think there's a very specific reason he chose not to. Anyways, that's a discussion for another time.

I'm not going to assume I know exactly what Magnus' sexual orientation is, but I doubt she does either. I think she looks at each individual with the kind of open-mind she has in her daily life.

I actually thought they did a really good job portraying subtext. If Magnus was a male hero I'm pretty certain they wouldn't have had to change a thing to have it be completely accepted. In fact, I've seen even less development and it was still readily accepted.

It's interesting how it always seems to come up with sexuality is treated as fluid and also when it's women expressing their sexuality the way they want, free of a man.

I did, too, to be honest. It felt like a James Bond movie, lol. Hero + sidekick. Action stuff happens. A little humor, some explosions. They kiss...

well, if you look at statistics alone, women are liable to be much more fluid and--

I think it's like everything else, people like their labels, when someone doesn't fit an assigned label in whatever way, cue the freaking out. Since I've mostly avoided the controversy I can't say if any of the comments have a pro-hetero/anti-*insert orientation of choice* slant, but really when it comes down to it imo attraction is attraction, love is love, wth is this sex/gender business? It doesn't make a person any more or less a better person. Granted that doesn't apply as much in situations driven by lust, but the underlying principle holds.

So basically, what you said ;)

Since when has it been established that Magnus is a straight character? Just because she up until now has only kissed men on screen? That's a really small amount of information to base an assumption on, given that the show is not and never has been about Magnus's love life. Plus the lady's lived 200+ years for cryin' out loud! She's bound to be very open and as you say 'pan sexual ( ... )

Not to mention you saw Will and Abby with clothes off very clearly having sex in that episode which was a lot less family friendly than a 30 second kiss where everyone was upright and had clothes on
