Smallville: Tom Welling in TV Week

May 09, 2011 22:54

Canada's TV Week Magazine featured Smallville on the cover of their May 7-13, 2011 issue, and inside they talked with Tom Welling and other members of the cast (both past and present) about filming the show in Vancouver over the past ten years.

So wonderful of you to scan and share this with everyone. I can't get enough when it comes to Tom interviews. I love *finally* getting to hear his perspective on things - even though I don't always agree 100% with him.

As Val said, his sincere concern for others - whether guest stars or regulars - always comes through so strongly. I love that so much about him.

After all those years where interviews were a rarity and I never even dared hope to see Tom on a talk show again, I'm completely overwhelmed by everything he has done to promote the finale. This has been an amazing year for Tom fans. We've seen him at the Upfronts, SDCC, the TCAs, the 200th episode party, and now this flurry of interviews and appearances as Smallville comes to a close. He's been incredibly generous with his time, and I will be forever grateful for all he's given us in this final season, both on and off the screen.

Tom seems truly unique in the entertainment world. He doesn't act anything like what one would expect from a guy who has been the star of a TV show for ten years, with all the power, celebrity, and financial success that comes with that. How can anyone not love him?

I do think a lot of that physical affection came from John Schneider, rather than anything in the script, and I love that Tom was inspired to have Clark follow Jonathan's example in that regard. Obviously any show has hundreds of people, most of them unsung heroes, whose contributions make its success possible, but I will always believe that it was the actors who made the biggest difference on Smallville. The characterizations of Clark, Jonathan, Lex, and Lionel belong to the actors who brought them to life, and none of them fits the stereotypical mold we could easily have seen with a different actor in the role.

Wonderful piece! Love all the quotes from Tom. (And also Glover relishing his shock treatment moments!)
