[Jack hadn't gotten quite a clear enough look at the drawing before he blurts out]

Joyce?!

[this is startling for two reasons.

1 - she didn't realize there was anything for people to blurt out to.

2 - she hasn't actually been able to speak to Jack since Buffy told her what had happened.]

Jack?

[it's then that she realizes the filter is broken, but it's a small thought, quickly pushed aside at the fact of who she's actually talking to.]

[Well this conversation was going splendidly, wasn't it.]

[but those were dangerous waters and she'd rather know how he was doing before she braved them. She hesitates, before trying again]

Was that...about the Joanna Joyce?

[thankfully, one surprise voice is enough to clue her in to what's happened, so she's almost expecting it when Archie's voice comes through, and the tone in it immediately brings a smile]

I've had the rough sketch of it started for ages, but I thought I might try to do something...more. Maybe in charcoals?

Whatever you do will be lovely, I'm sure. ...How have you been?

[a laugh] If there is such a thing as too much faith, I think you might have it.

...I should be the one asking you that. How are you feeling?

[ action ]

[slaying]

[ the slayer is back home to collect a few things -- namely, the same things she collected together and tore from cullen house about a week ago. it's time to move those things back out to the shore and make good on her promise to look after jack as he recovered.

she is sneaking her way down the hall to gather her stuff when -- ah. music? buffy pauses.

and then she most nosily pokes her head into jilly's room. ]

Didn't know you were into that kinda thing.

[ action ]

What kind of thing? [she doesn't mind the intrusion. In fact, it gets a smile as she looks up from her work]

[ action ]

[slaying]

All that diddle-dee-dee and diddle-dee-dye music.

[ so eloquent, her. ]

[ action ]

[laughing] It's wonderful to dance to.

My best friend played the fiddle, back home. I miss being able to watch him busk.

[she gives a small laugh]

It's hard to complain. I'm just grateful things seem to have quieted down a little.

One of them...but it was mostly just...imagining. We don't have a lot of kids that young around here.
