It was right in the middle of the entrance to a field, which is an odd place to drop dead. My best guess is that someone had to change direction on the lane outside and reversed in there, although I'm not sure if that could happen fast enough that the fox wouldn't have got out of the way.

wow, i only saw this now, thank you for posting them for me! It was so gorgeous. You should try and see if there are any bones left to compare.

I pass that spot every week and it was gone the next time. There were sheep in the field a couple of weeks later, I think the farmers were quick to tidy up.
