Shampoo, Conditioner and Daily Question

Feb 03, 2022 14:57

I have been trying to cut my carbon footprint and have decided to try bar shampoos and conditioners instead of shampoo and conditioners in plastic bottles. I'm not sure where to begin. I like my shampoo to have a nice smell but most of these bars are bought online so you can't do the sniff test. When I read reviews I tend to read mostly one-star ( Read more... )

I’ve not tried the bar shampoos either so I shall see what people suggest! Instead I’ve cut plastic almost everywhere else. I even found some the equivalent of Saran Wrap that biodegrades!

I even found some the equivalent of Saran Wrap that biodegrades! That is so neat! I wonder if they sell an equivalent over here.

I am going to start hunting for a shampoo bar that works for me. I shall keep you posted.

I'm so glad you understood what I meant - I've just re-read what I wrote and it makes no sense LOL!

I have never tried a bar shampoo, but you tempt me to try one. I don't wash my hair much anymore, though. It doesn't seem to need it. (Compared to washing it daily in the 1970s!)

If you come up with a good one, let me know.

I don't wash my hair daily anymore either. In the 70s I traveled the subway and my hair was oilier so it needed the daily washing.

If you come up with a good one, let me know. I will!

I've been using this shampoo+conditioner bar for a couple of years now. It's not a particularly strong fragrance but a nice one. I do love that it replaces too big bottles and lasts forever BUT... keep in mind that I have very short hair. It's fine and it's thin and, thankfully, I don't spend any cycles worrying about how it looks.

Thank you for the link. I color my hair and would probably need a shampoo that is color-safe. That company does have a color-safe option but only a shampoo, no bar conditioner. Since I color my hair I do need a conditioner, but I might try it anyway. I'll keep everyone posted on my search.

I have given up using shampoo and (mostly) conditioner as well. My hair looked pretty lank for the first 5 or 6 weeks, and after that, it was fine. I used a bit of conditioner on holiday, because I swam so often. Generally, I wash it in the bath with just water, every 2 or 3 days. I notice much less of it comes out in the comb these days, than when I used product on it. I don't know anything about the bars.

I have been shampooing my hair way less these days but I don't think I could forego shampooing altogether. My scalp has a tendency to flake and itch if I wait a long time to wash.

Here young people get the vote at 16, and it seems they do not follow their parents but tend to 'rebel' and vote for someone different :)

I can see some 16 year olds doing that but I was actually thinking of children younger than that.
