Our kitchen cabinets collapsed. I hadn't noticed before how cheaply constructed they are, but they collapsed in the same manner as the Hyatt walkway (a textbook case of bad structural engineering). Why do tastes change, generationally or individually? For example, why did anyone think that 80's hair looked good? Why did the same people who once thought it looked good now think it looks funny? If I'm emailing an adult I don't know for the first time (and whose age I don't know) in a non-professional context (not a professor, potential employer, doctor, etc.), is it more appropriate to address them as "Dear Mr./Ms. Lastname" or "Dear Firstname"?
