Oh Morag, where did you get that dreadful list of books that was so bad you had to do your own? This one is much better (although it is still nonsense because Good Omens is not number one, even though everyone knows it wipes the floor with all other books ever written).

I got this from twinkem , who has read almost twice as many of these as I have, which ( Read more... )

books, reading

From Entertainment Weekly! Neil Gaiman posted it on his blog and so I had to go look! My list of 100 from 1983 to 2008 is clearly vastly superior!

I just did this on sef's but in the interest of further wasting time (can't do whole list as have gone over word limit for a reply) so I've read:
2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,14,16,22,23,24,26,30,35,36,39,40,46,47,49,51,56,62,65,68,69,70,71,73,74,75,76,81,84,85,87,88,89,90,93,94,97,100

And yes, Tess of the D'Ubervilles is balls. IHATEIT. Having sex on ancient monuments doesn't make up for the rest being rubbish.

Awwwwww I wish I was coming out to play where you are tomorrow! Have fun!! xx

Birdsong was one of the most godawful books I have ever had thrust upon me by the monster that is popular opinion.

I mean, in the First World War, lots of people died, right, I mean really lots, a really really really big number, I mean, think of a number that's really big and it's like, more than that. And it was really, really awful for people. No, it was. Really. And some of these people, you'll never guess, were your great-grandparents! No! I mean, who'd have thought?

1,4,5,8,9,11,13,15,19,22,23,24,25,32,35,36,39,42,43,46,52,53,56,60,63,65,68,69,70,72,73,87,93,100. Also one out of three of (3), four out of five (4), two out of three (84).

Weird list. It's peculiar to see some book series listed as a single entry while others are listed individually.

Ah, I would have considered them to mean the first Hitch Hickers book, which can stand alone, and the first Gormeghast book, but I can't imagine why they've listed His Dark Materials as one. Peculiar indeed.
Makes more sence than Entertainment Weekly's list though, that was bizarre!

But the book called Gormenghast is the second Gormenghast book, so surely they would have written "Titus Alone"?

Of course it is (it's been a while). Inexplicable then, perhaps their website would explain why?
