Just heard the poleaxing news that Kay Dekker (mhw ) apparently just passed away. I feel as though someone has punched me very hard in the stomach.

Kay was a warm, happy, hugely nice, intelligent man who I don't think had an enemy in the world -- the sort of fellow it was impossible not to like.

The tradition of Armistice Day, and in particular the wearing of a poppy to honour it, is now almost a hundred years old.

How many other traditions as old as that which don't formally involve any religious or sectarian element are still capable of generating so much heat and light both for and against them?

Apparently, "Should we not hear from you before 27/10/09 your money will automatically be transferred into an account earning only 0.1% interest"  actually means "Even if we do hear from you before 27/10/09 your money will still automatically be transferred into an account earning only 0.1%  interest, and you can't stop us, nyaah nyaah."
