I'm officially in "advanced Italian". According to my friend Liz's dictionary there is only one more tense for us to learn. I don't believe that though, because I've definitely seen two that I don't understand. The good news is I can communicate beyond a basic level (apparently). On Friday we took an early bus to Umbria. We stopped in a small town that I don't know the name of to see a Fransiscan church. Our local Penny Market (I think it is actually called a Pfennig Markt) sells these delicious soft German cookies that are filled with orange flavoured goo (jam?), and topped with a thin layer of chocolate. I think my dad and Leonor might have brought the same ones home from Portugal last year. Anyway, they're delicious. And I love their English ( Read more... )

Friday was a national holiday here as it was Epiphany. My understanding is that you leave your window open at night, and a scary, ugly witch (the Bufana) will come visit you.
