[Tony shakes himself awake, looking blearily around him. He'd had some type of strange dream. He had still been in Mayfield, but he had been with friends from home. Pepper was in his living room, drinking that godawful tea she likes so much for some reason, and Rhodey was sitting in the kitchen with his ( Read more... )

Just pick one and get it over with.

[Bazett herself does not care for the color of her clothing. Although if she were given a choice, she would not wear the garish clothing she currently has on, she has been forced to wear it out of necessity.]

Perhaps. The last time I was there, they dressed as maids.

[The "they" in question had been two of the greatest heroes the world had ever known. It was a slightly surreal experience, to say the least.]

[Visions of voluptuous French maids with tantalizingly low cleavage and rather short skirts begin to fill his head.]

Ah... that, that sounds like it could be, er... enlightening. I mean, because I've never been, you see. Ahem.

Well, it certainly allows you to see things that you would not normally see.

[It was much like the rest of this town in this manner.]

All right, you've convinced me: we'll go to Coscraig's. I can tell you really want to, and what the lady wants, the lady gets. But don't feel TOO jealous when my eyes wander. Human nature, y'see.

[At this point, he has more or less lost her.]

I suppose we should go then. After all, if we are too slow, we might miss lunch and have to get dinner instead.

Yes. And I can not currently afford that.

[Tony adjusts his shades and jovially offers his arm out to her.]

[She stares at his arm, confused as to what he is trying to do.]

Is something wrong with your arm?

Just extending my arm. So... you can link yours with mine? I thought that was the universal symbol for... linkage?

[Now Tony's self-conscious.] It's always been clear BEFORE...

[...His arm is now getting tired, but he doesn't know if he should lower it yet. God, maybe I should go to the gym, if my arm's burning ALREADY... but I HATE the gym...]

[Bazett has no experiences with men or dating, so Tony's gesture is lost on her.]

Why would we need to be linked if we are simply going to share a meal? Is it because you need me to guide you to the location because you would get lost otherwise?

[Tony drops the arm, rotating it a bit because it's slightly sore now, and then scracthes the back of his head. Talk about sheltered! Arm linking isn't even a pop culture reference, really, more of a... social studies reference?]

You've really never seen that before? It's an old European thing, men used to stroll with women, arms linked. I don't... know why, exactly, but it was considered pleasant, even romantic back then. I was being quaint by--

WOW, I feel uncomfortable explaining my thought process now. Let's just go, hm?

I have seen it before, but I do not believe it applies to this situation.

[She now finally realizes what he is talking about.]

We are not on a date, Stark.

[Technically, they were, but it was not supposed be a romantic one.]

I have simply agreed to accompany you for lunch. I suppose we could attempt friendly conversation while eating, but I will not indulge you romantically.

Never say never! [...She never actually did.]

But of course, of course, strictly business, never pleasure. I was just being friendly.

[She sighs and decides not to argue any more.]

I will lead you to the cafe then.

...You may hold on to me if you fear that I might walk too fast and lose you.

[This attack on Tony's masculine ego keeps his hand firmly in his pocket. He salutes instead.]

Lead on, mon capitan.

[She steps out of the store and holds the door open for him.]

Since you were attempting to be courteous, I suppose I should return the favor.
