Vedic Astrology and Filing

Jul 07, 2009 13:41

I’m off to do a Vedic Astrology course tomorrow. This is not something I’m massively fascinated by, I’m more of an I-Ching and the Tarot woman myself, (and angel cards, of course,) but when a friend mentioned it, the writerly part of me went, hmmm, might be useful for a story sometime. So, I signed up.

However, apparently as part of the course, we ( Read more... )

astrology sounds cool, let me know how it goes!

re stories I keep most of them in a folder called (surprise) Short Stories and name them StoryName_1stdraft, storyname_2nddraft etc. Sometimes I forget to save a few in the right place but generally I stick to the rules. What we need is a source code management system for writers :)

I don't even know what source code management system is but I'd like one. Can you make it? :)

I think what I need to do is have a description chart where I have a short account of what's in each file and why I bothered to save it. I mean, some are self explanatory but others, not so much. ;)

It's for programmers. When you're working on a large application, it's usually compiled from loads of different modules. When people are writing the code, they test it to see that it works and then "check it in" using the source control software. Also you can compare and contrast with earlier versions and roll back changes where required.

Unfortunately doesn't work with word processing files as they are actually binary files full of machine code, rather than straightforward text files.

I totally understood every word of that. ;)

Ah, my dear LW. So nice to hear from you! Wow, 50K words! That is some achievement since the most I remember you writing on any one project before this was 19K words. I hope is continues to go well.

Screw short stories! Yeah, sorry Kara, but I said it *evil grin*

Having stong files is a good thing, but you have to keep up on it. I swear I arrange all my files then look up a week later and there are a dozen new files looking for homes! Ugh!

Whenever someone of Irish descent says their mother doesn't know when they were born I think of Monte Python where the mother is doing dishes and has a baby drop out of her. Too funny!

It's good to see you too. :)

Now that you say is, putting together 50K is an achievement.

Regarding the Monty Python scene, my mother did say that each baby got faster and heavier. Apparently my younger brother just made it to the hospital. Thank God there were only four of us. :)

Heh! Since I've finally managed a novel outline, I can be part of the 'screw short stories' brigade, too!

Not that I've managed writing bookish words to it, but still...

Isn't your time of birth on your birth certificate??

Induced childbirth is insane. When I had the choice of induction or c-section, my doc didn't even let me get the 'in-' out before saying, "It's extremely painful, and in your case, I doubt it'll work. I advise against it."
That was enough for me!

Nope, it's not on mine. Perhaps the newer ones, but definitely not mine.

I have heard that induced birth is quick but extraordinarily painful. I wonder what induced is like for the baby though. Is it like being booted out the door? :)

I think that childbirth has to be a bit painful for the baby as well. We always think about the laboring mama trying to squeeze something the size of a watermellon through an opening the size of an orange, but what about that watermellon being squeezed! Ouch. Can't be comfy.

Absolutely! So when mothers start on their "you tore me apart" routine, the children should scream back, "you think it was easy for me? You dented my head."

I'm pretty sure they record the time of birth on your birth certificate.

50,000 words to work off of, that's great! A boost, for sure, but I do like that you're not worried about throwing them away. Sometimes I get stuck right there. You write lovely short stories, but I think it's good you're choosing the book project as I know that's where your heart is right now ( ... )

Well, my course told me great things about my potential so I'm happy to accept 11 as my birth time. For now. :)

Your filing system sounds so logical. I bet I could destroy it in an afternoon.

Regarding the negative possibilities in reading people, as in your handwriting work, our teacher told us to, "be kind," when dealing with people. It set the tone for the whole day and for my understanding of vedic astrology.
