A proud and fiery woman entirely concerned with perfection, and incredibly good at making just about everyone afraid of her. They've exchanged words before, and Roy is vaguely glad that he hasn't been targeted by her acerbic wit and critical eye just yet. He has experience dealing with women like her, but well: it never fails to feel like one's crossing a mine field, really.
How Edgeworth manages, Roy will never know.
On another note, after meeting Franziska's father over the network, Roy can see where she might have gotten it all from. He attempted to approach her about it before, if only to see the exact nature of their relationship, but she very coldly rebuffed him before he could get anything out of her.
Still, it wasn't a completely unproductive exercise. Now he feels like he understands her a little better.
FRANZISKA VON KARMA, WEAPON ☇ BULLWHIP
Originally just an acquaintance of his from the Kuzunoha Detective Agency, now his regular buddy in chess. Someday they will start a club and demand that all the men wear cravats and the women in mini-skirts to every session. Edgeworth seems like an upright chap who is genuinely concerned with the safety and well-being of everyone in Death City. He's a tad bit idealistic, yes, but a little bit of that never hurt anybody.
MILES EDGEWORTH, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL TALK
Someone from Edgeworth's world - an old colleague, it seems, who knows a hell lot more than he lets on. It isn't just because of his age: he appears to have been taken from further down the time line than the rest of his people. That must make things interesting, to say the very least.
Roy's only too familiar with people like Phoenix and the kind of game they play if only because he used to do it himself constantly - he still does, although to a far lesser extent, and not entirely on purpose. This is a man who has heard things, done things and seen things that he couldn't have ever imagined himself hearing, seeing or doing before. This is somebody who knows what it's like to be brought so far down that there seems to be little hope of getting back up and standing on one's own again.
Something tells him that Phoenix knows that HE knows, which is precisely way they don't talk all that much or call each other on their mutual BS. It's just better that way for the moment.
PHOENIX WRIGHT, WEAPON ☇ COMBAT KNIFE
Another serious guy with the look and eyes of a soldier... if Roy didn't know any better, he'd have to say that BREW's been getting smarter about who they bring in these days.
Initially, Roy had thought that Hawke might make a good asset to Shibusen's war against the witches. An exchange that they had during the Vriska Serket operation, however, has left him with a number of misgivings.
Thankfully, though, BREW seems to have recognized that Hawke was probably going to do more harm than good, and sent him back home.
HAWKE, MEISTER (★) (returned)☇ SOUL BITE
Roy can still count the number of conversations he's had with Sokka on one hand, but he's fond of the kid already. Even with his terrible map-making skills, he seems to have his heart in the right place.
Oh, and the fact that Toph might be dragging him over to the Watch is a plus too.
SOKKA, MEISTER (★) ☇ CLAIRVOYANCE
Zuko's popped into Death City more than once, and Roy barely managed to speak to him each time. This recent run apparently wasn't any different.
ZUKO, MEISTER (★) (returned)☇ SCORCHING SOUL
A jolly country with a great sense of humor: he really seems to like kids, too, and occasionally does things that keep everyone in good spirits.
Roy isn't about to forget the way Cuba threw a surprise party for Nanako - the timing couldn't have been better, given how things had been happening at that time. Should Cuba ever need anything in the future, Roy's going to be the first in line to ask what he can do for him.
ALEJANDRO PEREZ (CUBA), WEAPON ☇ 9K38 SOVIET INFRARED HOMING SURFACE-TO-AIR MISSLE
Yoko's partner, and England's... brother, was it? Country relations have the tendency to confuse Roy unless they're laid out straight for him, and he's never had the opportunity to ask exactly how England and America are related without risking some social awkwardness.
America and Roy recently had their first long conversation during a ball held to celebrate the safe return of the kidnap victims from the hands of the witches. He's decided that he rather likes this country, and hopes that they'll be able to talk more in the future.
ALFRED F. JONES (THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA), WEAPON ☇ RWB-3SHOT
Nice chap, this one. Takes good care of the people whom he considers as his "citizens", and seems very close to his fellow countries. And he's got to admit it: Arthur's pretty cute. It's hard to remember the fact that, as an embodied country, he's MUCH older than Roy, and has a whole lot more experience on the battlefield than he does. It must be because Arthur's awkwardness over becoming a "regular" human being makes him seem so young. And, as with most young or young-seeming people, Roy's compelled to feel like watching out for them.
Roy has recently opened up to England about Hughes, and England also opened up about some of his problems to Roy - this has, without a doubt, brought them closer together, and is the reason why Roy now regards the country as one of his closest friends in Death City. He'd be glad to do what he can to help the country out.
ARTHUR KIRKLAND (ENGLAND), WEAPON ☇ BROADSWORD
A commendable commander, and someone worth following. Prussia's hyperactivity is something that Roy would normally be irritated at, but it seems... different, somehow, on the country. He might even be inclined to say that Shibusen needs folks like Prussia to keep the morale up, even if it's through the sheer power of annoyance.
He is also Germany's 'brother'. That is always a plus.
GILBERT WEILLSCHMIDT (PRUSSIA), MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL IRRITATE
This one's good, better than he'll ever give himself credit for. An authority figure that anyone who's just found themselves stranded in Death City can trust with their lives. Everything about Germany, in fact, screams MILITARY, and Roy strongly approves. The country is amazingly efficient, and is clearly one of the reasons why Shibusen is still on its feet in spite of everything. For a good while, though, the country didn't seem to trust Roy, and there were more than a few things that the two of them disagreed on. Strongly.
Still, the pair did manage to find a lot of common ground after a time - they have their differences, but they're BOTH concerned with fighting and winning the war, after all. Now that Roy has stopped trying to see how to dismantle Shibusen and actually lent his skill to the Academy, it appears as though Germany has eased up; on the other hand, now that Germany has stopped trying to get on his case, Roy can properly show him respect without feeling like the other was getting in the way. It might even be accurate to say that they are friends, of a sort.
Between the two of them and all of the other remarkable people lending their efforts to fight the witches, everything will be just fine.
LUDWIG (GERMANY), WEAPON ☇ GEWEHER KARABINER 98K
They may not exactly be friends (they feel more like family, actually), but they certainly understand each other. Roy and China have a very professional relationship, punctuated with surprising displays of concern and intimacy, and China doesn't seem to be as unwilling to relate to humans as, let's say, Germany would be. It would also seem like Roy can learn a lot from this one, and he's always willing to receive advice from a reliable source, especially when it comes to what he's planning on doing.
Roy's a little surprised at how his relationship with China has developed thus far... he had expected some serious resistance, given how the countries seemed to treat people (read: with a certain amount of distance, distrust, or disdain), but found, instead, that they had much in common. He plans on deferring to China more in the future, should there ever be a need for it. In the meantime, all is well.
YAO WONG (CHINA), WEAPON ☇ QIANG
...Not sure what to make of this one just yet. There's something strange about him, 'strange' in the way that Roy's familiar with. He knows a chess master when he sees one. Why a kid like this is like that, though, he can't tell.
On another note, Lelouch claims to be Suzaku's good friend, but from the way Roy has seen them interact...
He'll watch and wait for now. They had an intriguing conversation in Maldives, but it wasn't much to go on just yet.
LELOUCH VI BRITTANIA, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL MANIPULATE
A boy from Allen's world who happens to be calling himself Allen - he's not bluffing, either, and was equally surprised to see somebody else with what he considers to be his name.
Allen has told him that this one is dangerous, but asked that he step down and wait.If Roy didn't consider the boy his friend, he might have done something by now, but... he'll just have to see.
NEA WALKER, MEISTER (★) ☇ INSANE SOUL
This one's got serious anger management issues, but overall? He doesn't seem to be a bad guy... he's one of Celty's friends too, so that's got to count for something.
They don't talk all that often, but Roy doesn't have a hard time carrying on a normal conversation with Shizuo. Maybe he's lucky.
HEIWAJIMA SHIZUO, WEAPON ☇ LARGE STOP SIGN
He... really has no words for Aerith, actually. She's affectionate, sweet and friendly to just about whoever she meets, and he's been the reluctant recipient of her attention time and time again. She's also the one who always manages to pull him out of his slumps, either by merit of excellent (uncanny) timing or by forcing her way without really forcing anything. She could have ignored him, minded her own business, tended to keeping herself safe. But she didn't. There is also the fact that in even though she was brought home once and came back not knowing who he was, she still insisted on carrying on as though they were still great friends.
People like Aerith are a threat to the emotional walls that Roy builds around himself in order to stay sane, but Roy can't help but be drawn to this girl. It's not like she stays away from him either, so maybe there's no avoiding it. These days, he's not sure whether he wants to avoid it anymore. It's the most difficult thing, admitting to the fact that you need people as much as they need you.
Aerith recently informed Roy about Sephiroth and a few of the more serious matters that took place on her world. She's also been left behind by Zack, who was her boyfriend back in the day and a friend to them both. Roy, of course, is out to do what he can for her; she's helped him a whole lot. It's time to pay it all back.
AERITH GAINSBOROUGH, MEISTER (★) ☇ CALMING WAVELENGTH
This fast-talking redhead appears to be one of the subordinates that Rufus Shinra, during his first visit to Death City, and Tseng back when he was still around were looking for. They've only talked twice, but the second time was a request for help against a man known as Kadaj - someone who was trying to kill Rufus. Reno now officially owes him one.
Roy likes having people whom he can ask favors from in the future.
RENO, WEAPON ☇ ELECTRO MAG-ROD (EMR)
Reno's boss and "President", and an enigmatic man who probably knows a lot more than he lets on. They ran into each other during the Maldives outing, and Roy managed to get the lowdown on Rufus and the exact nature of the relationship he has with Cloud and the group Cloud leads. He was candid and honest, but something tells Roy that there is much more to the story than Rufus is letting on. Furthermore, Kadaj must have wanted Rufus dead for a reason. That sort of thing intrigues Roy, although you won't ever hear him saying that.
At the moment, though, they have a very business-like relationship, and Roy isn't about to withdraw the support he's offered to the man. Rufus needs it, given the fact that Kadaj doesn't seem like the kind who doesn't follow through on his threats.
RUFUS SHINRA, WEAPON ☇ SHOTGUN
Yuna's cousin, and a veritable blond bombshell full of energy from what Roy can see. Interestingly enough, while Yuna's occupied with Vergil, Rikku mentioned something about going out on a date with Dante...
Talk about familial ties.
RIKKU, WEAPON ☇ GODHAND
Somebody from Lightning's world - a friend, in fact, of the woman soldier. Roy, of course, felt the need to protect Vanille on that count in the same way that he looked out for Hope while the kid was around. He's feeling that old instinct again, now that she's back and none of her friends are in sight.
Thankfully, she seems to have found a partner who can wield her. That protects both her and her Meister from harm, at least.
OERBIA DIA VANILLE, WEAPON ☇ NIRVANA ROD
Roy's probably not very high on this one's approval list, and it has everything to do with the Watch's little training exercise. He can't blame the kid, and he' isn't really expecting to be liked anyway.
Recently, however, Kurt was attacked by Vriska, one of the trolls that came into Death City. He isn't talking about what happened, and maybe? Roy doesn't need to know. He has, however, given the boy a weapon for self-defense, and the Watch has managed to resolve the Vriska case rather swiftly. Now it's just a matter of waiting on Shibusen's judgment.
KURT HUMMEL, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL SERENADE
Shinjiro Aragaki's partner, and one of the (many) trolls wandering around in Death City at the moment. This one pinged Roy's radar by attacking Vriska while the Watch was occupied - not something that sits well with him, to say the least, even if her reasons were 'valid'.
Karkat and a number of others have advised him about the matter, and Roy's not about to punish Kanaya too severely for her actions. Still, she can't go scot free: he can't afford to have residents attacking residents on his watch.
KANAYA MARYAM, WEAPON ☇ CHAINSAW
A recent arrival in Death City who asked Roy a very interesting question about Edward Elric. He... can't take it against her, given her reasons for bringing the topic up, but it did dig up some memories with it, good and bad.
Aradia apparently has a history with Vriska. She was vague on the details, and Roy wasn't planning on asking even if he was curious. Thankfully, the girl's conversation with Vriska took place under his observation - he's learned a lot of interesting things.
ARADIA MEGIDO, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL ANIMATE
A chipper boy whom Roy instantly liked the moment they talked - he's from the same world as Karkat, and a very good friend of Jade's. He appears to be one of the leader-figures within the group, which does beg to question what he's capable of in a fight.
Still, it's never sat well with Roy, how they have one too many kids with a bit too much battle experience running around Death City these days.
JOHN EGBERT, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL LEADER
The troll responsible for the attack against Kurt Hummel, and the Watch's current target - the first outsider, in fact, that the group will be hunting down and apprehending. Roy doesn't know what brought the attack on in the first place, but part of him wonders if it's necessary for him TO know. People from different worlds have diffrent rules, after all, regardless of their age.
VRISKA SERKET, MEISTER (★) ☇ EIGHTFOLD SOUL
Kurapika's partner, and the very epitome of Charming Gentleman. In spite of the smoothness, however, there's something... off, about this one. Thereis also the fact that he's a, ahem, 'collector', with particular skills that Roy only recently made use of for the sake of his training his men.
He's not too surprised, that Kuroro bent the rules a little and had his partner join in on the fun, unauthorized. If for anything, that does confirm a few things, the foremost being that he'll need to be more careful with this one in the future.
KURORO LUCIFER, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL STEAL
Roy's seen this one twice before, but this is the only time he's really managed to talk to him - the kid's expressed interest in the Watch, but hasn't actually joined up. Roy's not pushy, of course, but the more able-bodied folks he has, the better.
(And this is off the record, but he thinks that it was Gokudera who was posting about those explosives back then. Really, if he had a nickel for every person who asked about dynamite, or grenades, or bombs on the network...)
Gokudera's a fiery kid with some serious issues - that much is obvious. Still, he seems to have his heart in the right place.
GOKUDERA HAYATO, WEAPON ☇ G'S ARCHERY BOW
To put it bluntly, Roy's not sure what to make of this kid. On one end, he's this quiet little guy who can't socialize to save his life. On another end, he's this stubborn thing with a very black-and-white view of the entire world and a propensity for flaring up at the strangest times. They had a good talk before, then Roy seemed to fall out of the boy's favor after the Watch exercise - understandable, given what was taken from Enma. Now, however, they've gone back to being civil.
On another note, the way Gokudera and the others from that world treat Enma has intrigued Roy. He's probably never going to find out what the deal with THAT is, though.
KOZATO ENMA, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL LUCK
Noa made a strong first impression on Roy the first time they talked, which only merited his later curiosity when the quiet young man seemed to slip off the radar completely for a long period afterward. They've recently re-established contact, however, and their conversations leave Roy with the impression that they've got a lot more in common than they think.
NOA VOILIER, WEAPON ☇ 12-INCH CHAKRAM
Roy's first encounter with this one was on the training grounds: the boy wished to spar. Roy, of course, indulged him. Apparently, it left enough of an impression on Sasuke for the boy to keep on coming back for more.
Roy's initial perception of Sasuke was that the kid was serious and skilled, and in need of somebody to set him straight. He was soon proven right - the more they talked on the network, the more intrigued (and alarmed) Roy became. Just what does it take for a kid to be so antisocial, so driven, and so breakable? He tried, of course, to dig around, but came up with nothing until he managed to catch Sasuke at a particular vulnerable moment. Suffice to say, the conversations resulting from that left Roy wondering exactly what happened between Sasuke and Naruto, Sasuke and his own brother, and Sasuke and the likes of Kakashi and Gai.
For the way that Roy claims to not be interested in babysitting, he's always been drawn to kids, especially ones who looked like they needed a helping hand. Sasuke is no exception - Roy plans on being around for this one, whether Sasuke likes it or not.
UCHIHA SASUKE, WEAPON ☇ BLINDFOLD
An intriguing kid, even if he's a little weird... he appears to be the quiet leader of the Persona users from Iwatodai. Souji Seta's equivalent, in a way, although the two couldn't have been more different in Roy's eyes.
They haven't spoken with each other all that much, but Minato does make his presence known on the network even if he never actually posts for himself. These are exchanges that Roy used to watch with some interest. It's a little unreal, seeing that people who think like Minato actually do exist, and his behavior often breeds more questions than answers. Still, it doesn't seem like a BAD thing: just different.
Minato's absence from the network prompted Roy to do some digging around, and apparently, the boy's been returned home. Something tells him that he'll be back someday though.
ARISATO MINATO, MEISTER (★) (returned) ☇ SOUL ZZZ
The girl who, in an alternate version of Iwatodai, has the same 'function' as Minato - Roy refuses to think of her as Minato's female equivalent, however, given their vastly different personalities. They bonded almost immediately due to Minako's loneliness - it's a terrible thing to say, but it's the truth. When she first arrived in Death City, the people she knew as friends knew Minato, not her, and there was a lot of shock and confusion over the alternate world business. Thankfully, Shinji arrived sometime after she did, which, in a way, confirmed her world's existence beyond doubt for everybody.
Roy, of course, is glad that things seem to be working out.
ARISATO MINAKO, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL BFF
A Persona user from Inaba, and Souji's closest friend. This is a new Yosuke from the one Roy knows, and, as before, the boy appears to be a bit intimidated by him. That, of course, just gives Roy more of a reason to work at getting to know him better. Any friend of Souji's is, after all, a friend of his.
Souji recently opened up to Roy about why things are complicated between him and Yosuke, but the boy's attitude, coupled with the fact that Roy knows that Yosuke watches out for Souji, has assured him that things will work out between them. One thing that Roy hasn't told either of them about, however, is the fact that during their first time in Death City, they were together...
HANAMURA YOSUKE, WEAPON ☇ HEADPHONES WITH METEOR HAMMER
The owner of the Northern Lights, formerly partnered to Canada - one of the countries that was returned home by BREW sometime back. She's been in Death City for a while, from the looks of it.
Rise is of the first Persona users Roy ever met, and he finds the concern that she shows towards other people commendable. He also knows that she's a reliable source of information, which is something that Roy makes use of whenever he needs to.
Ran Fan and Rise have recently partnered up. Roy has a feeling that the Persona user will do Ling's bodyguard some good.
KUJIKAWA RISE, WEAPON ☇ WHITE VEIL
A civilian from Souji and Dojima's world. He seems like a decent guy - Roy's even tried to help him figure out his weapon form. Still, he appears to be particularly interested in completely avoiding Souji and the rest while seeming to know nothing about the entire Persona business. Suffice to say, this is enough to make Roy just a bit suspicious...
That reminds him. He's going to have to ask Souji exactly how he knows Namatame someday - he spotted them talking on the network before. He's hoping that the boy will give him a straight answer.
TARO NAMATAME, WEAPON ☇ A PAIR OF CHAKRAMS
A strange boy with a preference for the dramatic, based off of how he speaks on the network. He's apparently been observing the Watch for a while, and has recently expressed interest in joining up.
Roy's hoping that he will, if only to see what N might actually be like.
N, WEAPON ☇ JEWELED SWORD
