In "Avalon" I missed some pieces of the plot I'm afraid. I did get the broad story though - it was about an aged hippie who pretends to impersonate the lightness of being, but struggles with the aftermath of a fatal accident and is planning to cheat on the people he is doing business with.

An obviously rich urban couple travels the outer rural mountain area of Iran, trying to distribute seemingly endless plastic bags full of money among the poor people they meet. In "Toata lumea din familia noastra" (Everybody in Our Family) the girl starring the five-year-old daughter was the absolute sensation. Regrettably the director wasn't there for Q&A, so I couldn't ask how he found and - more importantly - how he'd directed the girl. To me "The Woman Who Brushed Off Her Tears" is a strangely indecisive film with two parallel plot lines - one in France, one in Macedonia - which finally meet in Macedonia. The film left me wondering what the makers wanted to tell me.

"Parada" I just loved the moment the credits rolled. It's so funny and sad in a perfect balance with so much to think about the Balkan problems that it was indeed the only worthy winner of the Panorama Audience Award... Everyone who has a chance to watch it should absolutely do so.

Today it was time for "Submarine". I'd guess that nearly everyone can find oneself in the story of a Welsh teenager, who fears that his parents are about to break up and who fancies a girl in his class who despises romanticism.

Just one easy-going French film today after the demanding agenda of the previous days - "Dernier étage gauche gauche". Funny with serious aspects. The leading actor could very convincingly look dim-witted without betraying his character.
