Last weekend I had my car serviced. No big deal - - two bad sensors, and a short in the wire for the Check Engine sensor. So I'm watching The Thing. Not the 1951 film, "The Thing from Another World", nor the 1981 Carpenter film, "The Thing", but the 2011 prequel, also helpfully titled "The Thing". Charlie update
My nephew got out of the hospital yesterday evening, and is now recuperating at his home. His enzyme levels were good, and the MRI was apparantly acceptable. Still have no information about the exact hows or whys of it all - - I only hope that if this is related to alchohol abuse that this serves as a wake-up call for him. -

My nephew, Charlie, is in the hospital with acute pancreatitis. This is an inflammation of the pancreas caused when digestive enzymes produced for the small intestine begin attacking - - digesting - - pancreatic tissues instead. Ray Bradbury passed away yesterday. I discovered Ray Bradbury when I was twelve or so, when science fiction and fantasy began to really dominate my reading. Ray's writing had a brightness to it, a touch of the whiz-bang quality of pulp science fiction, but with a darker side to it, a shadow to match the brightness. Today UPS and Fed Ex showed up at the same time. It was very awkward. "It's not you," I told them. "It's me. I just have logistical needs that cannot be met by one delivery network. I hope we can still be friends."
Thank god I got them out of there before Southeastern Freight showed up!
