I politely said "higher than I need right now!" and "No, they're legally not allowed make them unlimited unless you ask them to or it was that way in the beginning," and walked away backwards, watching him drop the thingy through the slot.
I used to work in exactly that service station when I was in uni, and I know how easy it is to just take a list of numbers/expiration dates, and go on a spree on the 'net or party lines or whatever.
I wasn't _too_ fussed about it... the guy was from an ethnicity in which I've witnessed a slight tendency to be more in-your-face about personal details. It might have been idle curiosity expressed (imo inappropriately, but iho perfectly fine), a cultural thing!
...why would he ask that?oooooh maybe you were over the limit, they always have to double check my card at marks and sparks which always freaks me out so I always have to use cash. It's a pain.
