babies;
Congratulations! You're about to be a proud parent! Or are you?
Here at Time and Tides, we feel that babies can be a productive and natural result of mature, committed adult relationships. Sometimes having a child is the next natural step for some characters. However, we do have some caveats and rules that go with appreciation that sometimes another little person can be the best character development in the world.
✖ Parenthood is serious business. If you choose to have your character pursuit pregnancy roleplay, understand that you are committing to it for the long term - Once it's done, it can't be undone. Abortions are not performed in Gaia, and attempts to induce one would have heaps of scorn piled on your head from everyone. There's no birth control either, except abstinence. Since mixing a potion to un-oglop Regent Cid was a dicey venture, I guarantee you that any contraception is a complete crapshoot.
✖ Think about what you are going to do with this child once it has arrived. The moogles quit babysitting after Eiko. Blame her, but she broke the mold. So, who's going to be watching your little one while you're gallivanting the globe saving the world? What's going to happen to it if you go back home? Not only that, but the spell that brought you here could just as easily send your baby away, back to your world or even to someone else's. Think long and hard before resigning a child to your character's fate. That said, there will be no baby/child original characters allowed. It can be referenced as a vague npc in the course of your role play, but we do ask no unique journals for them, and please not to have the child dominating your character's tags. Play your character, not it's child.
✖ Characters must be in a committed, and married, relationship to have a child. We understand casual sex has become the norm of many cultures across the globe. Such is not the case in Gaia. Your character is living somewhere that people get married, then have sex, then have children. Breaking these societal mores will not win you any brownie points, nor will it turn you into a revolutionary. This isn't to say your character can't shack up with the person of their choice, but expect to be treated like dirt if it gets out. What we're trying to do with this rule is ensure there aren't a glut of one-night stands resulting in an explosion of unplanned pregnancies. You're here to role play, not increase the Gaian population. We've still got Moguta and his kupo nuts for that. Thanks Zidane.
✖ No mpreg. Period. Biology doesn't work like that. For that matter, all pregnancies are nine months. Premies aren't likely to survive with the level of medical technology available, and as for non-human races, unless we know how their reproductive cycle works, we're going with the standard one we all know and enjoy engaging in. (Moogles and Black mages not included.)
✖ Miscarriages happen, sadly. If your character suffers enough trauma, expect it to happen. Please don't use them as a method of birth control. Losing a child is a devastating personal event and not one that ever goes away, even with time. Please be courteous to your fellow players if you choose to lose a child. Some of them have experienced the death of a child or loss of a baby, and seeing it handled flippantly is at best offensive and at worse heartbreaking and cruel.
✖ At this time, we are asking all potential parents to please seek mod approval before proceeding with a pregnancy. We're not trying to be control freaks, not even the mod who plays that manipulative Vayne. But we are trying to ensure that we maintain a fun playing environment for everyone, and an explosion of BABIEZ! is not the way to go with it. If you've got a good case for why your character and their spouse should be having a family, we'll okay it happily. As long as we get to coo over the precious one once it arrives. Garnet's having baby cravings.
