faq;
It's a brand new place, a brand new world, so of course you will have dozens of questions that need to be answered. While there are some that you will have to figure out on your own, the rest will all be explained here. If your question is not yet on the list, do inquire with a comment on this entry and we will answer.

i; What is the timeline for Time and Tides?
This game is set four years after the events of Final Fantasy IX. Visit the game premise and setting for more information.

ii; Are new characters just falling out of the sky?
That would result in a rather rocky landing, don't you think? Characters arriving to the game that are not of IX canon simply wake up in a place of the player's choosing and converse with the nearest moogle about where they are. And believe us, there is always a moogle nearby. No one told Zidane to stop feeding Moguta (Gizamaluke's Grotto's moogle, husband of Mogmi) Kupo Nuts, and, well. What can we say. They've had four years to multiply.

iii; What about characters who've died?
No longer will they be a tragic memory of their loved ones, dead characters are just as welcome here as the living. However, they should be taken from any point in their canon up until their actual death. Nobody post-death. For characters taken from FFX, they are not officially dead until they have been sent.

iv; And what about characters from IX?
All surviving main and supporting cast of IX (that is, anyone who is in remote danger of being apped) are considered missing in action at the start of the game. They vanished right around the time these foreigners started appearing, and will re-appear at the time they gain a player. So sorry, Freya, Fratley is missing again, Regent Cid will be searching for Eiko, and the Tantalus hideout is going to be depressingly empty for a while.

v; Can my character destroy the world?
Unfortunately, they cannot, otherwise the game would end far too quickly. Characters have all been affected by the spell that brought them here, so they will find that their powers and abilities have been weakened by a small percentage. The strong are still strong, and the weak will remain weak; the simplest way to put it is that you are no longer as strong as you once were. If you're playing a villain, please review the ground rules for crime and villainy.

vi; So no summoning Meteor?
Sorry, Sephiroth, you will have to find other ways of wrecking havoc that don't involve mass planetary destruction.

vii; Can my character still use magic?
They can, of course. But likewise, that has also been affected. In IX, magic and spells are learned the same way as swordsmanship. Your character simply knows how to cast spells. This means no Materia for VII folks (apologies, Yuffie dear, you'll have to find a deeper meaning in life.). When you choose a job class for your character, we respectfully ask you to try to abide by the skillset of that class.

However, we understand that some characters are simply not themselves without certain canon abilities, so if you find yourself with a few rogue skills you can't live without, such as Kuja's telekinesis or Yuffie's kleptomania, feel free to detail them under 'special abilities'. We just ask that you try to be reasonable and not pad your characters with skills they don't necessarily need for the sole purpose of making them more powerful.

viii; How many characters are we allowed to have?
The character limit has been set to four. However, that comes with conditions, including ones discussed below for same game characters. Also, we ask that you please limit yourself to no more than three major characters. You are welcome to fill as many of your slots with minor characters, such as Blank or Jote, as you desire.

ix; How often do I need to post?
Activity Checks will be held at the end of every month. A requirement of two proofs of activity will be needed. Details will be in the AC posts themselves, and the policies may also be found here.

x; Can I play characters from the same fandom?
You are allowed to play characters from the same Final Fantasy, however we ask that they not be closely related (i.e. Cloud and Aerith, Squall and Seifer, etc.) to make the game more interesting for everybody. It's no fun interacting with yourself. There is also a limit of no more than two characters total from any one game.

xi; How do our characters post anyway?
Characters will be posting their personal entries to the mooglenet community. This will be for Mod/NPC announcements as well as first-person character entries. Third-person logs will be posted in timeandtides , and out of character entries to tidesout .

xii; What will happen to characters who die/are dropped?
While we ask that nobody go killing their characters left and right, we understand that it does amazingly well for plot purposes. But still, it's a rather cruel thing to do to your characters, so there is an allotment of three deaths before your character is either permanently alive for the rest of the game, or dropped completely, so keep that in mind when you're staring down the blade of Masamune.

However, if you choose to keep your character after their in-game death, there are rules to abide by. One, they will remain out of the game's activities for a significant amount of time (upon their first death, one week; the second, two; the third, four). And two, the state of being dead degrades either their soul itself or their bodies, and each time they die they stay dead a little longer. Players have the option of their characters either permanently losing a memory, or a sense (sight, hearing, etc.) for a significant period of time, and the loss will increase in importance after each death. We also ask that you contact one of the mods for permission before you off your character. And, of course, please don't kill anyone else's character without permission from all parties involved.

Dropped characters will simply vanish into thin air, and if re-applied for, the new player will have the option of either starting over with no memory of ever being in the game, or picking up where the previous player left off. You are by no means REQUIRED to pick up a previous player's canon, though.

If you drop a character and wish to play them again, there will be a wait period of one RL week between the time of the drop and the time of applying.

xiii; What is the time ratio for the game?
After much deliberation, the mods have decided on a flexible time flow. What that means is that any given month will be synced with a game month. This allows you to post or pre-date logs, based on your availability.

xiv; Can I apply for an original character?
Sorry, only characters from established Final Fantasy games/canons are allowed.

xv; Which games can I apply characters from?
If Final Fantasy is somewhere in the title, knock yourself out. Our taken characters page has headings for all the Final Fantasies and offshoots we could think of, but if we missed one let us know here and we'll take a look. Please note that we only accept applications from games which have been released in English.

However, we're sorry to say that we will not be accepting characters from other Squaresoft/SquareEnix games or Kingdom Hearts adaptations of Final Fantasy characters at this time.

xvi; What about NPCs?
At TNT, we provide a small plethora of NPCs to help along plots, make announcements, and generally make the game more interesting. Our main NPCs are Cid Fabool, Regent of Lindblum, and Moguo and Stiltzkin the moogles. Regent Cid will be informing you all of political changes, current events, and generally act as a ruling figure. Moguo (some of you may know him as the Moogle Flute moogle) will bring you word of new amenities, attractions, and the occasional death threat if you call him too many times--he's upgraded from the flute to a cell phone, but you better believe his ring tone is still the flute melody. Stiltzkin, meanwhile, will foreshadow future plot. Doctor Tot resides in Treno for any questions you have about the game world. Other NPCs exist, some on a purely invisible basis, and only when needed like Artemecion and a Lindblum Knight.

If you ever find yourself in need of an NPC, just drop us a line with your idea and we'll do our best to accommodate. Please just keep in mind that we mods can sometimes get busy, so we can only promise our best in this area.

xvii; What is the age requirement allowed to play?
For legal reasons, 17 years of age is where we've decided to draw the line. There are some adult situations within the game and of course, there is the possibility of there being more in the future. And because of that, anything and everything containing any adult situations is to be strictly locked for members only.

xviii; What about Limit Breaks/Limits?
Any unique abilities your character possesses, like Twincast or a Limit can be listed in the special abilities section. We do ask however that in listing special abilities, you only give the bare minimum that makes your character unique. The idea behind the Job Classes, is forcing otherwise jack-of-all-trades characters to deal with new weaknesses, the strictness of their job class, and learn to work as a team with other characters. Special Abilities exists so Irvine can keep his guns, Balthier can stay a pilot, and Yuffie can still rob you blind.
