I suppose my favorite book and movie adaptation is LOTR. I loved the books, loved the whole mythology thing and the movies, while different were quite wonderful too.

I am shocked at how many people don't read the books. :)

I think the film adaptation of The First Wives Club by Olivia Goldsmith is really quite good. Granted, I'm probably prejudiced because I saw the movie when I was young and didn't read the book until years later, but I thought the book kind of dragged and got a little tedious.

I also love the 2002 film adaptation of Red Dragon, and I read that book before I saw the movie, and it's my favourite of the trilogy. I've never seen Manhunter, though, so I can't compare the two.

Manhunter is great. Very 80s-cool-stylish, but fabulous. Plus it has Peter Williams. ♥ (Loved the "Red Dragon" film, too and have yet to read the book to compare.)

The English Patient. Wonderful book and a beautiful movie. Despite the fact that the way the book was written ought to make it really difficult to translate to film, Minghella did it, and then some.

This is how film adaptations ought to be made.

I understood and loved the premise for The English Patient. I thought it was beautifully filmed but it was just too long.

Hands down The Virgin Suicides. I actually watched the movie before I read the book, but I love both equally. While the movie adaptation isn't 100% the same as the book (when are they ever?), I thought it was really well done in that both can be appreciated as their own separate entities, AND together. Both are beautiful. ♥

And for a movie that was better than the book... The Other Boleyn Girl. The movie is fantastical and has a lot more dimension than the book did. And the book dragged on and on and on. The movie knew when enough was enough.

As much as I love Chronicles of Narnia, I think the film adaptation of Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe was better in a lot of ways than the book, with all apologies to C.S. Lewis. The book is a very simply told story, giving a lot of room for elaboration, and the movie just brought it to life in a way that was captivating. I wish I could say as much for Prince Caspian, but they changed a lil too much for my liking in that one. Here's to hoping Dawn Treader, whenever it gets made, is back on track!

I thought TLWW was just so gorgeously done, that's what I love about it. I did read the book when I was younger, the only one of the seven that I actually did, and I liked it, but the movie was somehow ... more. I usually don't have a problem visualizing things, and that was one movie that showed me more than I imagined.

Prince Caspian was really pretty too, but I never read the book, so that's probably why I don't object to it as much.
