Here is a vitriolic deconstruction of Firefly, filled with hate and rage.

i think you'd really enjoy the huff -- the hero is a staff seargant and senior NCO who kicks some major ass. very good writing, from my not-so-military perspective.

A lot of my favorite authors have great female hero characters, but the story is seldom told 'through' their perspective unfortunately.

I'm actually amused by this rant (at least the author has the grace to admit that it is one)...because frankly, if there's any beef we, the audience might have with the characters, it's that not one of the characters is phenotypically Chinese. So colored by one's own (extreme) experiences...and wow, what commentary on poor Mrs. Wheedon.
I just can't take what's written seriously. Not my brand of feminism; what's the point of feminism if we're neutering everything else, including masculinity, in the process? The point is balance and equality, methinks...but what do I know. I'm just a poor brown female, save me from my white oppressor spouse. *rolls eyes ( ... )

No no, you're a poor brown female being oppressed (and raped, I guess, by the "radical feminist" definition of rape) by another (essentially) brown spouse. I would think that even Cubans are considered "brown". *shrugs*
Anyway.

Exactly.
One of these days, when I'm older and grayer, I might have earned the privilege. I hope you'll tell me, if and when I do.
*smile* I'll be happy to do so, my friend.

Oh, and I have no idea if you watch any network television - but I so heart Abby from NCIS (in my userpic). The actress who plays her is actually trained as a forensic pathologist from LSU...and she plays a totally cute goth forensic pathologist on NCIS.

I had the same feeling when I saw Spike Lee's _Jungle Fever_, which is entirely about how black male/white female relationships are all about sexual curiosity and can't work, EVER, because that's all there is.
*sigh* I really wish people would quit universalizing their bad experiences that way.
