I mentally catalogued points to touch on in your ep discussion while I was watching. See below:
WTH episode. For real.
Starting out with:
Misery scene
CPR on a gunshot victim... okay, so I am a minimum wage summer lifeguard with a probably illegal Red Cross certification, but still. RUFUS. REALLY.
Worms. That crawl into your brain and magically don't do any damage. Someone, call the TLC execs because I'm sure there is some sort of special to be done on that.
NO MORE SOUP FAMILY!!!!!!!
Overall, I was somewhat chagrined at the plotlessness in this ep, but Jensen's hoarse voice throughout MORE than made up for it. Mmmmm.
"Worms. That crawl into your brain and magically don't do any damage."
LOL. They're MAGICAL worms, okay? Once they're inside your head they transform into magical pixie dust. Or something. God, why do we waste our time thinking about this stuff? The writers sure as hell don't.
well i thought they ripped the worms off from star trek (the original series)...and yeah what was with all the dead bodies not meaning anything? only rufus counts because he was bobby's pal? i liked that campbell girl too, she was the only one in the damn clan who seemed like a decent person, and they just what...left her body in the warehouse?
arc? there was a moment there when i thought oh wow the arc is about to MOVE FORWARD and then as far as i can tell it too fizzled and died...
and yeah...um...i hate to say it but its a relief not to have a show next week...i have to stop watching the previews all they do is piss me off...i mean...ok now they are rehashing/mishmashing/recyling last week AND mystery spot at the same time? jesus christ...
"well i thought they ripped the worms off from star trek (the original series)"
Heh, could be. The first time I saw this plot was in The Thing but it has been done and done and DONE, including by this very show (and in much better form, too.) This particular ripoff looked very close to the classic X-Files episode "Ice", but that had tension, pacing, and the good stuff. This was just a limp retread of a retread that screamed "we are out of ideas."
"only rufus counts because he was bobby's pal?"
I was going to add "WTF only Rufus' death counts??" to my list but like I said, I really am sick of listening to myself bitch. It would have been nice to see them show a moment of concern or regret or something for poor Gwen but I guess she was just the disposable female character of the week.
Mystery Spot was a high point for this show, and it saddens me to think that they're going to cannibalize it. I hope we both misread the previews and are wrong about that.
They did rip the worms off Star Trek. They even referred to them as 'the Khan worms'.
I know this episode had it's weak moments (most especially how Dean didn't seem to bat an eye at killing Gwen) but I think it was one of the best ones of the season. Heh, maybe that's saying something about this season!
I feel like when I was watching Lost and they wasted all that time introducing the people from the tail section of the plane and then killed them all.
I agree with all your points here.
I loved "It's not rocket surgery." and Dean's blanket forgiveness to Sam and Bobby in the event of his death.
"-Gramps, jokes about your grandson touching your withered old junk are not funny. Your whole obsession with your dead daughter is creepy enough, thanks." I think I totally missed this.
I'm okay with over a month until the next episode. It better be good.
"I feel like when I was watching Lost and they wasted all that time introducing the people from the tail section of the plane and then killed them all."
Ha! Yes, absolutely. That was the point where I stopped watching Lost (without a single moment of regret) but I'm stuck with this show because of my love for Sam and Dean. At this point all I can do is hope Kripke returns next season or they hire someone with more creativity and vision than Sera... such as, you know, any of the thousands of excellent fic writers here.
I liked the boys interaction. Liked how they moved in synch and all the silent communication and instant protectiveness. That all felt right.
But I'm cringing on the wasted characters and plotlines with no point.
Regarding Gwen's death -- I'm glad they didn't go all Dean angst over it. Wouldn't be in character. It wasn't him. And he's spent the last few weeks telling Sam that what he did soulless wasn't his fault. This seems to me to be even less Dean's fault. Not that you were saying he should angst over it. I agree though that showing that they were going to have a funeral for her, or something, even a glimpse would have been fitting.
I can see them not mourning their Grandpa. That whole thing was an odd waste and never made sense. Crowley raised him from where exactly? And for what? There were no other hunters he could use to help him? I don't look for extreme logic from a fantasy show but a little would be nice.
Rufus -- RIP. Fantastic secondary character. So of course the Show has to off him. Sigh.

Yes, definitely, I loved all of that. And that's why I'm still around because I'm not finding much else to recommend to this show anymore. Gramps and his mysterious Raising and the Campbells -- after all the mystery and set up, it's all been tossed into the growing trash heap of discarded storylines and I'm getting really weary of it. Why waste our time? Why waste their own?
I'm going to miss Rufus a lot, he brought energy and life to the episodes he appeared in.
To fill up time until they can drag out the winchester angst of the season to fill up the last few episodes, duh. It's the Supernatural way.
The writers need to hire someone from a show that's actually done serialized storytelling well, and that person's job will be to smack them sharply and say, "bad writers!" whenever they try to drop their main plot to chase after some new shiny.

At this point I am in this for Jensen.

That's just pathetic!
-I wish they wouldn't have killed Rufus. He was a good character, and this show doesn't have many of those left.
Not to mention being a POC (person of color) and now the only one they had is gone now! That sucks!
I mean I know this show is all about Sam and Dean but Damn!

"So now that the Campbells are dead, does that mean we just wasted half the season on nothing? WTF?!"
I see the amount of care and attention given to the Campbell storyline as perfectly analogous for season six in general. God, what a mess.
