Today is Rohatsu (which literally means the 8th day of the twelfth month) and is the time when Buddhists commemorate the Buddha's enlightenment.

Now that it is after midnight, it is now Bodhidharma Day. Since most people don't know Zen Buddhism very well let alone Bodhidharma I thought I'd put some information up for everybody.

Here is my carrot-ginger soup recipe as requested by melodinous. This recipe is quick, easy, and cheap to make. I've served it at a dinner party and one of my guests has subsequently served it at one of his dinner parties.

Here is my family recipe. I figured I'd share. I'll probably end up posting my carrot-ginger soup recipe and my whole wheat shortbread recipe at some point if people are interested. One of the profs in my department told me if my PhD didn't work out I could go into business making my cookies.
