Competitive shooting is a tight knit sport, especially here in the Commonwealth. I see the same bunch of regulars at matches and practices. I did a double take when one of them walked into tonight's Camelot meeting. I just need to convince another couple of Gweep or Camelot folks to take up shooting and we'll have enough to put on a match.

At a tense zoning board meeting last night (they initially voted to deny us by one vote) the Berlin ZBA voted to approve our project.

I have finally joined the ranks of folks concerned with SV ephemerides and multi-path errors. In other words, I bought a GPS. The combination of a new chipset (SiRF III) and expandable memory convinced me that a modern receiver is reasonably future-proof.

What third-party software do you like? I've got Easy GPS which seems OK for the basics. ( Read more... )

The National Archives has placed scans and translations of the Domesday Book online.

I spent this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in a classroom at the GOAL Foundation and on the range at the Worcester Pistol and Rifle Club.  Why did I take a day off work and spend a beautiful weekend indoors?  I was taking an NRA Instructor course so I could learn to teach others to shoot.

I blame honkafied. On Saturday we were musing about how badly an AC failure would toast our respective data centers. That night, GdF's datacenter AC died taking with it two drives of one of our RAID arrays.

So, my office mate is now looking for someplace local (i.e. within about an hour of Woburn) with a good selection of SCSI disks.  Any suggestions?
