Last night I went to San Diego for the last time of the 3 week training class. It took me three hours to go 70 miles, as I got stuck in the worst traffic EVER. I was cheered up immensely by the pharmacology banquet, which had deep fried crabcakes, bison ribs (yes), 5 kinds of gourmet desserts, and an endless supply of expensive wine

Why on earth is the Newport Harbor water so icky? It looks pretty clean, and the flying fish seem to be enjoying themselves, but today in class when we did the "intentional" capsize (to show that we can right the boat), it's just so darn icky - like heavy and salty. It was a haunt of all music lovers, who came for Jon Brion, Aimee Mann, Dan Wilson, and Rufus Wainright. I regretted that I'd never caught Elliott Smith here before he died. I loved it because it was small and intimate, because you could hang out

Lab is going surprisingly well. My experiments are working, and it seems like we may begin writing the paper soon. It's an odd balancing act between just getting the story out, and taking more time to really tease out the whole mechanism of what is causing the story, but I'm so deathly afraid of getting scooped that I think we will focus on the
