“Can you believe this, Saga-chan? There are people out there not believing in love at first sight!” Shou huffed, putting down his Vogue on their breakfast table that was set up on the balcony.

Chuckling at how bewildered his lover seemed, the bassist set his cup of coffee back on its saucer and smiled at his husband. “The problem is that these days, most people meet only for one night. Maybe they felt this something in their heart with one one-night stand, but didn’t understand it was love.”

“But Saga-chan!” he dropped back in his chair. “Not knowing it is happening to you is different from not believing in love at first sight at all.”

“Shou, love, sorry I have to tell you this, but there are people who are not looking for love at all.” He chuckled as the vocal huffed again and picked his coffee back up.

“But that’s was life is about! Love!” He switched his folded legs and made an incoherent gesture. “I knew I was in love when I first met you.”

“And everyone else who saw you looking at me, too. Some thought you just saw a ghost.” He’d never forget the wide eyes, roaming all over him, the slightly parted lips of his gape that Saga felt like kissing right there, just to reach over the table and say yes to the question Shou never had to voice.

“Actually, I saw an elf. Or a God of beauty walking among us.”

Compliment Saga’s skills as a musician and he’d raise his chin a little, his chest swelling with pride, but if Shou compliments his looks, he’d blush and smile that shy smile, no matter how many years have passed by now.

“I’m sorry, but…” Chiaki averted his eyes, looking at the whispering little crowd a few feet behind the girl that was determined to hand him an envelope, adorned with a heart.

Masayuki had gone to the restroom and now she was taking her chance to talk to him alone for a moment. “Please, read it.”

“I don’t need to read it to know the answer, Yumi-chan. I’m sorry.” He said with an apologetic smile on his lips.

She gulped, her sweaty hands were ruining the perfect straightness of the paper she still held out. “So it’s true?”

Chiaki creased his fine trimmed brows. “What do you mean?”

“What they say about you and Masayuki. It’s why you came late to class together, today.” She now held her letter against her chest, crumpling it more and more.

He could feel his cheeks blush, but then, as he looked towards the door, Masayuki was walking in again. Of course he headed for Chiaki and once he stood close by, the blond stooped a little until he almost leaned against his side.

“Ne Yumi-chan, what did you do? You scared Chiaki.” He said, intending a joke but frowned as no one seemed to light up.

“Is it true?” The girl inquired.

The blond leaned against his shoulder, searching proximity, comfort.

“What is going on?” Masayuki looked at his friend, confused.

He needed to do something. Something unmistakable for others to see. Chiaki looked into Masayuki’s eyes, holding on to the thought that anything could always be solved with a kiss. Whenever he had felt anxious in his life, kissing the brunette had been the remedy in one way or another.

And now, now that he saw the question unanswered in the brunette’s eyes and the frown on the girl’s forehead and now that he heard the murmurs around him, he knew a kiss would show them more than he could ever explain with stutter and blush.

Therefore, he took Masayuki’s hand and held on to it as he placed his lips upon the other’s, pushing tenderly, as if he trying to convince him that it was alright to respond.

And that he did. His free hand wound around Chiaki’s waist, giving him the comfort his tremble asked for and the kiss he’d never be able to deny.

“Yo, dude, look at them!” Kenta.

Heat rushed through them, knowing very well how many eyes scrutinized them that very moment.

“I knew it!” Seichi.

There was no turning back.

“Awwww!” Sachi.

A kiss in public.

An intimate touch to show who they were, what they were for each other.

“But they are two guys!” Ando.

They were afraid to stop and open their eyes again, to see their classmates’ expressions.

“Aren’t they cute together?” Miwako.

And then, as they glanced back at the girl who now, defeated, held her love letter in one hand, hanging down like she was about to drop it, she asked: “For how long?”

“For as long as I can remember.” Chiaki answered, entwining his fingers with Masayuki’s.

No more hiding.

- - -

“Good morning, Suzume.” Said a familiar voice by her shoulder.

“Hyde-san!” She piped as she turned around. “Long time no see.”

“Up so early?” He asked, his hands tucked into his jeans pockets and taking a look at the bass strings Suzume was studying.

“I could ask you the same. What is a vampire doing here after the sun came up?” She laughed. “I couldn’t sleep that well.” She admitted finally and picked up a few strings and walked towards bass picks.

“Having a heartache?” Hyde asked, following her.

“Sort of. How do you know?” She frowned a little but continued to admire designs and materials, worrying her bottom lip.

“Well, I know your parents. It’s likely you inherited some antics.” He pointed at her bitten lip.

Feeling caught she let go of the now reddened flesh and cleared her throat.

“Need an advice from an old man?” He said with a smile.

“You’re not old.” The red head laughed.

No one bothered about Hyde’s age because somehow he had managed to stay young, physically and mentally. Plus a little too attractive for Suzume’s taste. He was older than her parents and yet she wouldn’t be able to say no if he asked.

“And you, my dear, are too much like your mom.” He said, taking a pack of picks out of her shopping basket and replacing it with another, the one she had bought the last time and actually liked the most so far, maybe the way she kept glancing at it told Hyde. The design reminded her of Kimberly. “You know what you want and yet you decide for another.”

“I don’t decide for anyone.” She sighed.

“But your heart does. Just like your mom’s.” Hyde petted her back. “Do me a favour and tell him he should stay where he is now, maybe he’ll listen to you.”

“If you ask me, Hiroto fell in love at first sight with Uruha twice.” Shou said, nibbling on a mini croissant.

Saga snorted amused and looked up at the other, how he leaned on both elbows on the table, his eyes more or less set somewhere in their garden. “Twice?”

“Yes.” He nodded a little languidly, as if moving too fast would scatter his thoughts. “The first time when he saw him on stage. I swear, he popped a boner watching GazettE’s show with me.” Oh how he adored the sound of Saga’s laughter. “And the second time backstage and you’d never guess why.”

“Then tell me.” The bassist refilled Shou’s almost empty glass of soy milk.

“Uruha was walking down the hallway, you know, in his typical manner with his back a little hunched and walking slower than any other person like he has all the time in the world.” Saga’s nod urged him on. “So Pon and I were there just to say hi and we saw Uruha asking one of the staff members for the location of the toilets and he was,” Shou held up a finger to make his point. “scratching his balls!”

“And Hiroppon fell for that?”

“He actually said He’s so perfect. And I was all What?!, but he already had that dreamy stare and the little squirrels in his head were plotting on how to win the ball-scratcher’s heart.”

- - -

Reita peeked into Ruki’s little private room the shorter man used for writing and drawing. No one dared to step into it most of the time. Not just because it was such an intimate space, but also notes and pieces were lying everywhere in disorder and only Ruki knew how to work with it. The man was currently snoozing on his scattered desk, pencil dropped and light still on.

Reita smiled. This was Ruki, his Ruki and he had no idea how to put into words why exactly he was smiling like this right now.

But he knew he’d have to carry him to bed, undress him and the smaller would be half awake and grumbling and mumble something between leave me alone and I love you. Reita would tuck him in, kiss him, smile a little more and then take Ran for a jog.

Maybe Ruki wasn’t the easiest to live with, but he enjoyed it every day, because, obviously, this was love.

- - -

“Now that you make me think of it...” Saga began, pushing a strand back that the faint spring wind had blown into his face. “Maybe Chiaki and Masayuki were in love before first sight.”

Shou perked his ears. “How so?”

The bassist leaned on their breakfast table, smiling at the single cherry blossom petal in Shou’s hair. “Remember when we visited the Pons right after Masayuki’s birth?”

“Of course. He was so cute and tiny and we brought them a Totoro sleeping bag and a chestnut plushie for him.”

Saga nodded, reaching over to take the petal and lay with it a little between his pads. “I was heavily pregnant.”

“And your water broke.” Shou said, laughing at his own little panic attack he had back then.

“Way too early.” He shook his head. It had caused quite some trouble. Uruha was scared, Hiroto was buzzing around to make it as easy as possible for Saga while they waited for the ambulance and Shou, well, he tried his best to pull himself together again and hold his husband’s hand.

“Like Chiaki couldn’t wait to meet Masayuki.”

- - -

“Does that mean you’ve never been with anyone else?” Yumi asked him, trying to swallow down the jealousy she felt, seeing how smoothly they held hands.

Chiaki simply shook his head. Somehow he didn’t know what to say anymore, as if sharing his feelings hurt.

“Why should he even want be with some one else?” Masayuki stroked the blond’s hand with his thumb, feeling how tense he was.

“So how does he know you’re the right one? You can’t be, you’re just his first… whatever.” The girl rubbed her forehead. No matter how often her friends had told her she shouldn’t try to romance Chiaki, that he was with Masayuki, she always stayed stubborn.

“How do you know he’d be the right one for you?” The brunette responded.

“I don’t know. I just wanted to try being with him. Maybe it would work out.” She fidgeted with her letter.

“It wouldn’t.” Chiaki said, holding tight onto Masayuki.

“But how do you know? Just because he’s your first love doesn’t mean he’d have to be your last, too!” She was getting angry.

“I don’t think there is any first or last in our case.” Masayuki said.

There was this feeling like the conversation was over, Yuki crumbled the letter in her fist and turned back to her friends.

- - -

“Mom, where are you?” Suzume asked as soon as the phone was picked up.

“He’s in the shower right now.”

“Uncle Kenzo?” She stopped on her tracks, a pedestrian almost bumping into her back.

“Why so surprised?”

“Nothing. Could you do me a favour?” She stepped aside on the sidewalk, letting the people pass without her being in the way.

“I can try. What is it?”

“Make mom stay.” She said simply.

“He never stays two nights in a row.”

“That’s why I said make him.” She sighed. “It’s not like he’s going home, anyway. When he’s not staying a night with the Machos or whoever asked him first, he’s with you. He doesn’t need to go home since I moved out, ne?”

We’re bound to meet the ones our heart called out for.

“Suzume, why are you- Oh, speaking of the devil.” The line went dead.

So don’t turn a blind eye on those who try to get close.

Awesome beta-ing by gazerotica!!

Written while I had no Internet for four five days.

Yes, indeed, it was hell.

Just to explain sth. here: my husband fell in love with me at first sight when he was 13. I, on the other hand, switched lovers, male and female, for several years until the day I gave in to his cheesy lines. And with cheesy I mean headdeskworthy. So most of the stuff I write about is actually quite realistic to me.
