History: Derek's interest in medicine started with the devastating loss of his father from an illness that the doctors had no cure for when Derek was just a young boy. Determined to find the cures with expiration dates, he studied hard and soon made his name as a surgeon at Hope Hospital in Angeles Bay at the age of 26 after completing his residency. Although his father is forever gone, he passes on his respect for life into his patients and tries to save them at any cost. It was at Hope Hospital that he began to make a name for himself as a surgeon. Here, he met the fiery blonde nurse, Angie Thompson, who was constantly on his case about the lack of attention and patient care. He also learned of his special ability, the "Healing Touch", a power of the Greek god Asclepius that granted Derek enhanced concentration and superhuman reflexes to save patients from certain death in surgery

Journal Sample:Another night getting home in the A.M. and I'm unable to sleep even after being on my feet all day. Angie managed to get off earlier, because I had hoped that I wouldn't be far behind, but it seems that she's resting peacefully in the bed behind me and doesn't even know that anyone exists outside of her pleasant dreams right now. I'd hate to disturb her. She's probably a little upset at me anyways... I saw that she cooked tonight, and my plate was cold on the kitchen table. I managed to heat it up and try some of it, but after sitting out on the table most of the night, I didn't want to risk it and I ended up throwing it away. It looked delicious.... I hope the two of us can have a day off some time in the next week. I could use the break, and I'd like to take her to one of the smaller islands nearby for the day

History: As a young child, Angie Blackwell's life was a fairly happy one for a young girl, and she was loved and doted upon by her mother while her father worked long hours at home and the local hospital. However, when she was eight years old, she was kidnapped while on her way home from school one day. She was held by the masked men for three days, until she was finally taken to her home. But when she arrived back home, her father was gone, and her mother couldn't explain why he had left them alone. This abandonment, coupled with the trauma of being kidnapped, strongly affected Angie. After the incident she became withdrawn and resistant to people, often being called "snobby" at school. After her father's disappearance, her mother became very ill and died soon after, leaving Angie to be raised by the Thompsons, close friends of the Blackwell family. The family was a well-educated and well off family, Mr. Thompson having been a close colleague of Angie's father at the hospital. They allowed Angie to continue the aikido training she

Soon after that, during a visit to Caduceus UK for a conference on GUILT, Derek himself was struck down by two simultaneous GUILTs: Kyriaki and Paraskevi. It was at that moment that Angie realized how deep her feelings for Derek had become; beside herself with worry for the man she loved, she nearly couldn't assist Dr. Naomi Kimishima in the surgery to save Derek's life. But after some coaching, Angie was able to calm down enough to assist, and Derek was saved. After that, she aided Derek and Dr. Kimishima when GUILT was released by a double agent working for Delphi during a demonstration at Caduceus UK, infecting a large group of people. It was after that incident that Caduceus International stepped in to take down the remnants of Delphi left around the world, with Derek and Angie heading up the fight. They traveled around the world, teaching doctors how to fight GUILT and helping to flush out the last of Delphi

History: Sync was born the fifth oldest of seven identical siblings in a mountainous and politically unstable region of the world as members of a secretive order of a religious organization. His family was a very in-bred one ((making them prone to genetic diseases)), in order to keep special inherited powers within the same family bloodline, so they all resemble each other very closely. The powers belonging to this special bloodline were associated with being the leader of the religion as well as gatekeeper to its religious secrets. The hit to the head created more than just a little pain, causing Sync to lose his memory of his life and when he was eventually found by an explorational scientific team downriver of where he had fallen. He had no recollection of what he was doing there or who he was, though he could remember that he was called Sync. However, that was the only thing he could tell his captors. After spending some time with them, they took notice of his strange powers he seemed to use on instinct ((since he had trained so hard they were just a natural part of his behavior in certain situations)) and they took a deep interest to him. They eventually started to talk about him to their higher-ups and word eventually got to Giovanni about Sync's amazing strategic and stealth skills. This is... intense. The island itself is beautiful, but the way we were suddenly brought here, as if we were--diseased? Detested? I can't think of the right word. It was like we were no longer considered part of society, and we needed to be disposed of as soon as possible. There we go, that's the word. Disposable. I'm just glad I didn't lose Kotetsu in the process.

At least we'll be helping here. Making a difference. Even if we aren't marked by name, someday this hospital will be famous for curing the diseases that, up until a few years ago, we were treating with conventional antibiotics. But since those don't work any longer, and people are starting to die from those diseases, then I guess it's all right to be on this island. As long as we're helping people, I'll be okay.

Ion’s unconditional kindness allowed him to be a welcome leader to the followers, and he met other people along his travels. The religion and his innocent personality also attracted the wrong sorts of people and he found himself in need of protection from the more aggressive groups. My first trip into the town was pleasant. I remember walking through it and looking in all the windows. Things are set up differently here than they are back home, but I prefer this “window shopping” as one lady called it. It’s a funny term for it though, because I didn’t buy anything. I only looked.

There was one toy shop that caught my eye and I found myself looking in the window longer than the other stores. In the window was an interesting cat doll, and it made me think of Anise. I do think of my friends often, and I hope their lives are happy now that they are at peace. Maybe even Anise can feel relaxed now that she isn’t watching over me anymore.
